Welcome to Talking Points, a series that looks at what makes certain products worth talking about, brought to you by Gear Patrol Studios.

Victorinox is a well-known name in the world of knives — after all, the Swiss Army Knife™ is one of the most recognizable tools on the planet.

Alongside its experience in manufacturing knives, the brand is also known for creating reliable, functional timepieces, and the new Swiss Army Collection exemplifies that.

The brand-new collection is an update to the best-selling Field Force range and serves as a capable entry point to the Victorinox family. Our standout pick from the new series is the Swiss Army Automatic 42mm. Read on to learn more.

The Backstory

Victorinox has built a reputation around crafting quality tool watches that marry accessible prices with reliable, no-nonsense performance.

Since its entrance to the U.S. watch market in 1989, Victorinox has continued to build solid timepieces that watch enthusiasts can wear daily, whether working or adventuring, without worrying about damaging their watch.

The new Swiss Army Automatic 42mm is no exception: functional simplicity and inherent readability were the guiding principles behind its design.

The Gist

Building upon the history of the Victorinox field watch, this series is all about design originality. This new series retains Victorinox’s iconic industrial design codes while embracing a streamlined aesthetic, functional simplicity and readability.

These timepieces feature plain, undistracting dials with a matte finish for increased legibility, curved shapes, function indicators, raised numerals, and Super LumiNova®-illuminated oversized hands, all of which combine to form a cohesive picture of clarity and readability.

They also feature ISO-certified anti-shock housings and water resistance good for up to 100 meters. The tool-free quick release strap system provides versatility and effortless changeability for the wearer; they can completely transform the look and feel of the watch by swapping for a bracelet that fits their style.

Each timepiece’s case, caseback, and movement holder is engineered, manufactured, and tested in-house at the Victorinox Watch Competence Center in Delémont, Switzerland.

Our POV

Any watch enthusiast looking to break into the space and invest in a watch designed to thrive in everyday wear will appreciate the brand-new Swiss Army Automatic 42mm.

With its homages to the Victorinox aesthetic, streamlined design, functional features and quality components, this is a watch to keep an eye on.

And if you still don’t see the watch you’ve been waiting for, Victorinox’s Dive Pro, I.N.O.X. Automatic or Journey 1884 series could be just the thing.
