An Iconic Tudor Chrono’s Racing-Inspired Refresh Might Be Its Best-Looking Edition Yet

This fitting tribute to a legendary competitor in one of the world’s most famous sporting events could really only spotlight one color.

I think it is safe to say that no color and sporting event are more inextricably linked than yellow and the Tour de France.

The basis, of course, is the maillot jaune, or yellow jersey worn by the race’s leader throughout the three-week competition, the 2025 edition of which kicks off this Saturday, July 5th.

True to its name, the latest Pelago FXD Chrono’s yellow accents are among its most defining features.

So when Tudor decided to release a limited-edition tribute to the Tudor Pro Cycling Team’s owner, Fabian Cancellara, the Pelagos FXD Chrono Yellow made all the sense in the world.

After all, the legendary racer wore the aforementioned jersey for 29 days and eight stage victories during his illustrious pro career.

Having looped Central Park with the guy when he first teamed up with Tudor a couple of years ago — I’ll never forget his “Look pro, go slow” advice — I’m especially stoked about this watch.

Same difference

So, how does this Pelagos FXD Chrono differ from predecessors, including last year’s Pelagos FXD Chrono Cycling Edition and last month’s Giro d’Italia-honoring Pelagos FXD Chrono Pink

Mainly with regard to the aforementioned yellow, which accents the dial’s sub-counters and tachymeter scale and runs in a stripe around the strap.

The TDF theme is so understated, you don’t even need to be a cycling fan to rock this Chrono.

Beyond that notable distinction, it largely resembles other members of the FXD (fixed lugs) family.

Though Pelagos started life as a dive watch, here it is a racing chronograph with a fixed bezel and a 43mm case made of light, tough carbon fiber with a matte black finish.

The matching matte black dial features a bi-compax layout, date window at 6 o’clock and luminescent ceramic composite monobloc applied hour markers.

Flip the watch over, and you’ll find its coolest touch. Along with the watch’s individual number out of 300, you get a top-down view of several cyclists racing diagonally across the caseback.

The FXD Chrono Yellow employs direct-action pushers, a sapphire crystal on top and a screwed back.

With snowflake hands and a calibre MT5813 movement (derived from Breitling B01 architecture), the watch runs at a 4Hz frequency and boasts a 70-hour power reserve.

Cycling-specific touches

Whereas some watches tied to pop culture events or sporting events broadcast it a little too loudly, Tudor keeps things blessedly understated with this watch.

Beyond the yellow accents is an IYKYK cycling-specific tachymeter scale wrapped around the dial. It displays average speeds cyclists tend to hit (below the typical 60km/h).

The most obvious nod to the world’s most famous bike race is also the least visible.

Flip the watch over and you’ll find its coolest touch. Along with the watch’s individual number out of 300, you get a top-down view of several cyclists racing diagonally across the caseback.

It’s the sort of subtle touch that lets you carry cycling vibes with you wherever you go, and no one else needs to know.
