Did Tudor Just Tease the Year’s Biggest Hype Watch?

It sure looks like Rolex’s sister brand is about to drop a Tiffany Blue Chronograph.

Editor’s note: Tudor has now officially launched the Black Bay Chrono Flamingo Blue. Head here for our latest coverage.

2025 may have only just begun, but Tudor is wasting no time in staking its claim for the most hyped watch of the year.

Over the past few days, Rolex’s sister brand has subtly — or not so subtly — been teasing a watch that, if released, could quickly become the most exciting watch of 2025.

Here’s what you need to know.

The Black Bay Chrono’s Transformation

Last year, Tudor unexpectedly turned its Black Bay Chrono from a forgotten (but still excellent) sports watch into a hype machine. This was thanks to the brand releasing an unexpected and extremely rare pink-dial version of the watch that has since become highly sought after among collectors, with a highly inflated secondary market price to match.

The brand followed that up later in 2024 with the release of a crowd-pleasing blue version of the chronograph. Only available in select boutiques, the Black Bay Chrono Blue didn’t become quite as big a sensation as the pink version, but it’s still a popular watch that’s difficult to purchase.

Now, the brand looks like it’s about to drop what is sure to be the hottest Black Bay Chrono yet: a Tiffany Blue version.

Taking a Page from Omega’s Book

Over the past couple of years, Omega has gotten into the habit of teasing upcoming watches by having brand ambassador and outgoing James Bond Daniel Craig casually wear them to events.

We saw this with the white Speedmaster and a couple of new Seamasters — one which has since been released, and one which we’re still waiting on.

It looks like Tudor is borrowing this strategy in teasing this mysterious Tiffany Blue Black Bay Chrono, throwing it on the wrists of its ambassadors and trusting internet sleuths to do their thing.

It’s working.

The first spotting came yesterday, courtesy of Australian watch publication Time & Tide. Their Instagram account noticed a recent post from Tudor ambassador Jay Chou, a Taiwanese singer, in which he can be seen wearing a Tiffany Blue hoodie and a matching Black Bay Chrono. At the time, it was unclear if Chou — who was also partly responsible for the pink Black Bay Chrono — was wearing an upcoming model or a custom watch.

But we now have evidence that it’s the former.

Today, numerous watch-related Instagram accounts, including Ben’s Watches and Haute Time, shared a recent post made by David Beckham where the former soccer star and current Tudor ambassador talks about launching his new supplement brand, im8health.

This, on the surface, has nothing to do with Tudor, but look at Beckham’s wrist and you’ll see the same Tiffany Blue Black Bay Chrono that Chou was wearing. And I don’t think he borrowed it from the singer.

What Does This Mean?

There are two possibilities here. Either Tudor is gifting special watches to its top ambassadors that will not be made available to the public, something it has previously done with its Formula 1 sponsor, or the brand is gearing up to drop a Black Bay Chrono with a Tiffany Blue dial.

I’d bet dollars to donuts it’s the latter. These posts seem too calculated to generate hype on behalf of Tudor, and if that hype ends up being reserved for watches that no one can ultimately buy, then Tudor is going to have a minor PR nightmare to deal with.

As for the watch itself, it looks to be the same style as the two new Black Bay Chronos released last year in that it’s fitted with the newer five-link Jubilee-style bracelet and micro-adjustable T-Fit clasp rather than the older Oyster-style bracelet available on previous versions of the chronograph.

Could Tiffany & Co. actually lend its trademarked color to Tudor?
Phillips

Regarding the dial color, it certainly looks like it could be actual Tiffany Blue, which would require a partnership with Tiffany & Co. The last time we saw such a partnership was in 2021 with the hype watch of all hype watches, the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711 Tiffany Blue — one of which was sold by Phillips for a staggering $6.5 million.

Tudor is a significantly more affordable brand than Patek, and I would think Tiffany would team up with Rolex before its kid sister, but who knows? Maybe Tudor and Tiffany decided a partnership made sense for them at his time. Or maybe, like the millions of other Tiffany-esque watches out there, it’s not actually Tiffany Blue but instead a very similar shade of turquoise.

Hopefully, we’ll get an official answer from Tudor sooner rather than later, or else these teasers are going to drive me insane.
