Ever since Tom Brady finally hung up his shoulder pads after the 2022 season, the seven-time Super Bowl winner has embarked on a new career.

No, I’m not talking about his polarizing start as a Fox NFL commentator. I’m referring to Brady’s unofficial career as the most buzzed-about celebrity watch collector.

Brady was an IWC ambassador from 2019 until shortly after his retirement, and during that time, he was basically restricted to wearing watches from that brand in public. But since parting ways with IWC, the proverbial floodgates have opened, and Brady has been spotted with some of the rarest, most hyped and most desirable watches in the world. The guy is even an investor in Hodinkee.

Now, the legendary quarterback is selling several pieces from his crazy collection in an upcoming Sotheby’s auction, including his most notorious watch of all.

The Tom Brady “Roast” Watch Is Up for Grabs

The headliner from Sotheby’s “The GOAT Collection: Watches &
Treasures from Tom Brady” is undoubtedly Brady’s piece unique from Audemars Piguet.

Unbeknownst to the public at the time, the watch was created specifically for Netflix’s The Roast of Tom Brady earlier this year. When Brady wore the watch while getting verbally pummelled by comedians like Nikki Glaser and Jeff Ross, the striking watch sparked conversations on Reddit, Instagram and elsewhere from viewers wondering what it was.

The mystery watch turned out to be quite insane: It’s a Royal Oak Flying Tourbillon in white gold with a diamond-set bezel, a salmon tapisserie dial, and baguette diamond indices that spell out T O M B R A D Y on the dial, with a Roman number VII at the 11 o’clock index to represent his seven Super Bowl victories. The rotor, visible through the caseback, also features Tom’s signature.

I’m not sure why anyone else would want a watch that was clearly made for Tom Brady to wear — his name is on the dial in diamonds, in case you didn’t notice — but Sotheby’s is expecting the one-of-a-kind piece to bring in more than any other watch at the auction, with an expected sale price of $400,000 – $800,000.

Four Other Watches, Plus Memorabilia

The Roast-worthy AP will certainly draw the most attention at the auction, but four other watches from Brady’s personal collection will also go under the hammer.

There’s a Richard Mille 35-03 ‘Baby Nadal’, the fourth in the ultra-luxury brand’s long-running series of highly anti-shock watches made for tennis great Rafa Nadal. It’s expected to fetch between $300,000 – $500,000.

Next is a Patek Philippe Nautilus Chronograph ref. 5980/1R-001 in rose gold. Brady has owned the watch since 2017 and wore it frequently. Now that the model has recently been discontinued, he’s selling high. It’s estimated to earn $180,000 – $240,000.

Then we have an especially blinged-out Rolex Day-Date, ref. 228396TBR. It’s executed in platinum with a meteorite dial, diamond indices and a diamond-set bezel. This glitzy version of the Rolex President could sell for $80,000 – $120,000.

Finally, the bargain of the group is an IWC from Brady’s stint as a brand ambassador. The IWC Pilot’s Watch TOP GUN Edition ‘SFTI’ is, like the Patek, a watch that Brady often wore in public, including during the Bucs’ 2021 Super Bowl victory parade in Tampa.

It should sell for only $12,000 – $18,000, which is still well above the 1,500-piece limited edition’s original retail price of $9,150.

In addition to the watches, Brady is also auctioning off a collection of game-worn helmets and jerseys from his college and professional career — including the NFL combine jersey he wore to run his iconic 40-yard dash in 2000.

The “The GOAT Collection: Watches & Treasures from Tom Brady” will take place at Sotheby’s New York during The Evening Auction on December 10. Ahead of the auction, the items will also be on display at Sotheby’s New York for The Luxury Sales exhibition from December 5 – 10.
