Timex Gives Its Heritage Chronograph a Sporty, More Affordable Revamp

This Daytona-like Waterbury only recently came out, but it’s already getting an appropriate stylistic summer reissue.

Only a couple of months ago, Timex dropped its Daytona-like Waterbury Heritage Chronograph. Perhaps needless to say, this ultra-affordable, racing-inspired Rolex dupe was a major hit.

Now, without giving enough time for the dust to settle, the brand has already launched another version of that watch. However, this edition — the Timex Waterbury Heritage Chronograph 39mm Fabric Strap — is sportier and, more importantly, even more affordable.

A racing legacy intact

Functionally speaking, this watch remains unchanged, both inside and out. It maintains its rotating tachymeter bezel, sub-dials, Daytona-inspired pushers, and so on.

It also maintains its styling, which is relatively minimalistic and clean for a racing chronograph and adds to its overall charm. While the black and silver and black and gold colorways remain, it does get a new version done in a black, silver, racing green and yellow motif — a nod to classic racing colors.

As before, the case is stainless steel, it has a mineral glass crystal and the whole thing is good for depths of up to 50 meters (remember, it’s decidedly not a diver). That case also protects the same Quartz Analog movement inside, which, while not particularly fancy, is utterly reliable and accurate.

Summertime and the wearing’s easy

So, if the watch itself remains unchanged in its form and function, what’s the big difference? Keen observers will notice that it has a different strap.

Instead of the original link bracelet or the alternative leather option, these three come with fabric straps. These woven bands are styled to match your chosen colorway, giving the watch a more summer-ready, easy-wearing vibe.

These [watches] are a lot more casual. They’re also a lot cheaper, which is an unexpected bonus.

While these straps are lighter and more breathable, they still boast a secure Timex-branded buckle. However, these are slip-through straps, so the fabric even covers the back of the case, adding to its summer-readiness (you won’t have to worry about the metal case making your wrist sweaty and sticky).

Admittedly, it’s not a major change, but it does alter the watch’s presentation quite a bit. These versions are a lot more casual. They’re also a lot cheaper, which is an unexpected bonus.

Editor’s note: The leather strap option is the same $299 MSRP, but it isn’t as casual or breathable.
