Timex has been undergoing a renaissance over the past several years under the guidance of its Italian design director, Giorgio Galli.

The crowning achievement of Timex’s modern rebirth up to this point has been Galli’s own eponymous line of watches, which began with the “Most ‘Timex’ Timex Ever Made” in 2022: the automatic Giorgio Galli S1.

Galli upped the ante with the second generation in 2023, the S2. With a part titanium case, a Swiss automatic movement and Swiss-made construction, the watch represented a new high point in quality for the affordable American brand. It also set a new high mark for pricing with an SRP just a hair under $1,000.

Now, Galli is back with the third and final entry in the series, and it’s not only the most impressive Giorgio Galli watch — it’s also the best watch Timex has ever made by a pretty wide margin.

A $2,000 Timex?!

I’ll get the price out of the way up front, as there is sure to be some sticker shock here. The Timex Giorgio Galli S2Ti is priced at an eye-watering $1,950. That’s exactly double the cost of the $975 S2, which was already Timex’s most expensive watch ever. But once you see what the S2Ti actually offers, that price tag becomes a bit easier to swallow.

First, let’s go over what hasn’t changed. The watch maintains the 38mm case size, Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement and Swiss-made designation from the S2. It also features the same handset and dial design, including the unique stainless steel index ring, though the dial is now made of titanium and is gray rather than black.

The Sellita SW200-1 movement powering the watch gets some nice decoration and an ion-plated rotor.

The case also has the same skeletonized design with a sapphire display caseback and an outer titanium case surrounding a solid core. But this time around, the inner case is made of lightweight (and expensive) forged carbon instead of stainless steel, giving the watch a more dynamic look.

Also new this time around is the crystal. While the S2 had a flat sapphire crystal, the S2Ti opts for a far more dramatic domed sapphire that envelopes the entire bezel, leaving only the lugs exposed when viewed head-on. This is more costly to produce and mimics the high-end look of TAG Heuer’s Carrera Chronograph Glassbox line. It’s a style Timex has previously utilized with an acrylic crystal on its highly popular Marlin Jet.

The movement gets a new finish with a black ion coating applied to the rotor. There is also more decoration on the movement itself, including perlage on the bridges, and I’m assuming the brand opted for a higher grade of the Sellita than last time.

But what’s most impressive and exciting about the Giorgio Galli S2Ti is the bracelet.

Sizing Up

The S2 did not include a bracelet at all, whereas the S2Ti comes on a full titanium bracelet. That alone will drive up the cost of the watch considerably, but there’s a good deal more to get excited about than just the fact that there’s a bracelet.

Timex has introduced a new toolless bracelet sizing system on the S2Ti, and it’s quite ingenious. I’ve also never seen anything quite like it, and I imagine the R&D cost was another significant contributor to the watch’s high price tag.

Dubbed the I-Size system, it consists of a series of outer links that can be pulled out and rotated, which then allows you to remove entire links from the bracelet. The system requires no tools, meaning you can easily resize the bracelet yourself right out of the box.

The bracelet also boasts a custom-designed titanium deployant clasp and quick-release spring bars, and its design is perfectly cohesive with the case of the watch, as the sides of the links feature the same hollowed-out construction as the mid-case.

Pricing and Availability

I’ve already mentioned the price, but it’s worth mentioning again: this Timex costs $1,950.

That is a lot of money for a Timex, there’s no way around it. But when you factor in the expensive materials used, the quality of the construction, and the new technology introduced in the I-Size system, the price makes a lot more sense.

As the last entry in the Giorgio Galli series, I think it will be a while before we see Timex produce a watch of this caliber (or price) again. The brand is only making 500 examples, and considering every other Giorgio Galli watch sold out, I expect the same to happen here.
