Timex may be in the midst of its best year ever — or at least in recent memory.

In 2024 alone, the affordable brand has launched its best diver ever, a titanium GMT collab with The James Brand that keeps microbrands up at night, a unique Space Age-inspired dress watch that exudes coolness, and a whole lot more.

But the brand isn’t done yet. Today, Timex debuted a new collaborative dive watch with seafaring outdoor apparel brand Finisterre, and it boasts a feature one certainly doesn’t expect to find on a $280 dive watch.

Roll Tide

Timex and Finisterre’s new collab is the Tide Watch, and if it seems familiar to you, that’s because the two brands teamed up to launch the same watch in a different colorway two years ago.

But two years is a lifetime in the watch industry, and that original limited edition has long since sold out. So if you missed it the first time around, or were simply unaware of it, then listen up.

The new Tide Watch is, in many ways, similar to other Timex dive watches. It features a rotating elapsed time bezel, Super-LumiNova lume on the hands, indices and bezel pip, a solid 200m of water resistance, a screw-down crown and caseback, and a substantial stainless steel case that measures 41mm across and 12mm thick. So far, so good.

The watch has everything you need to get the most out of your time on the water.

The watch also features a date complication at 6 o’clock with a round cyclops magnifier similar to the one seen on the current TAG Heuer Aquaracer, and the included two-piece nylon strap is made from #tide 100% recycled ocean-bound plastic and is equipped with quick-release spring bars.

This all feels pretty standard, but if you look closer, you’ll notice a little something extra. The case features a pusher at 2 o’clock, and there’s a static orange hand in the center of the dial that isn’t a seconds hand — there’s a running seconds display located at 3 o’clock.

While this may look like a monopusher chronograph at first glance, the watch is actually equipped with a tide indicator. The rehaut features labels for High Tide, Falling Tide, Low Tide and Rising Tide.

Simply set the tide to your current location (you’ll need to consult Google for that) and you’re good to go.

Using the aforementioned pusher, you can set the center hand to line up with the current tide at your location on the rehaut. The orange center hand will then track the tide in real time, making a full rotation around the dial every 12 hours and 24 minutes — the time equal to half of a day’s tide cycle.

Pricing and Availability

The combination of tried-and-true dive watch specs, Finisterre’s eco-friendly approach and the unique addition of a very ocean-specific complication in the tide indicator make this watch a winner in my book.

What’s more, the tide complication, like the watch’s timekeeping, is driven by a quartz movement, which keeps the Tide Watch’s price well within Timex’s usual affordable wheelhouse.

The Timex x Finisterre Tide Watch is available in one colorway — an attractive combination of blues — and you can only buy it from Finisterre. The price is just $280, but there is a catch: The watch is a limited-edition run of just 500 examples, so you might want to jump on this one quickly to secure yours.
