Bespoke Post dug deep into the Timex archive for this one.

Pulled from a long-discontinued automatic sports watch collection, the Timex x Bespoke Post Field Watch revives a beautiful military time dial from the 1970s in a comfortably compact 36mm steel case.

The best part about this deep-cut collaboration is that it is remarkably affordable at just $159. You would be hard-pressed to find a vintage example in working condition for less than that.

It is outfitted with a reliable quartz movement and a tough-as-nails Cordura pin-buckle strap with quick-release pins. Whether it’s for braving the great outdoors or stylish everyday wear, this sleek little revival is arguably Timex’s new top field watch.

A long-lost collection

Timex established the Viscount collection in 1957 to cover all men’s casual automatic watches, distinguishing them from the more affordable hand-wound variety.

In the early 1970s, Timex pivoted the Viscount collection to cover all automatic casual and sports watches. This included dive and field designs with a wide range of designs.

By the mid-1980s, Timex shifted its focus to quartz watch production, and the Viscount collection was discontinued.

Vintage looks, modern materials

Going off vintage print ads and a couple of surviving examples, Bespoke Post and Timex recreated the reference 461701 Viscount from the early 1970s, an automatic steel watch with a military time dial and rubber strap (pictured above).

For the Field Watch, the duo mirrored the steel barrel-shaped case design and stuck pretty close to the dial layout. The only two adjustments are the triangle hour markers subbed in for the odd-numbered numerals, and the second hand changed from red to orange.

The strap has received a significant upgrade from the original, swapping black rubber for olive green Cordura. This not only gives it a more military-issue appearance but is also more durable and comfortable.

The Timex x Bespoke Post Field Watch has a Cordura pin-buckle quick-release strap.

In an admirable move by Bespoke Post and Timex, the Field watch was designed to be priced at just $159. The two concessions that had to be made for this level of accessibility are switching to a quartz movement and using acrylic crystal instead of sapphire crystal or mineral glass.

The Field Watch from Timex and Bespoke Post is a masterfully executed revival of a long-lost archival piece with a period-faithful case size. It is arguably the best-looking milspec field watch that Timex makes and almost too affordable to pass up for fans of the category.
