Timex’s Coolest Affordable Watch of 2025 Is About to Get Even Better

It started as an obscure throwback dug up by Dimepiece and Foundwell, then blew up after a bump from Todd Snyder.

If you’re a Timex fan or follow watch media, you’ve probably seen the gloriously ’90s sailing watch floating around since April.

The 1995 Intrepid reissue was a passion project of watch writer Brynn Wallner, better known by her personal brand Dimepiece, and Alan Bedwell of Foundwell.

As Wallner recounts on her Substack, she stumbled across a photo of John F. Kennedy Jr. wearing a big, sporty watch in the Getty Images archives. The juxtaposition of the ultra-casual watch and the handsome Kennedy scion’s suit and tie caught her eye.

Wallner sent the image to her friend and vintage watch flipping business partner, Bedwell, to identify. He recognized it as a Timex and suggested that they should attempt to have it reproduced.

Through connections at long-time Timex collaborator Todd Snyder, Wallner and Bedwell met with members of the Timex design team and sold them on creating a faithful reproduction of the exact watch on JFK Jr.’s wrist.

Foundwell and Timex released the 1995 Intrepid in April, with the latter’s allotment of the limited edition run quickly selling out. Todd Snyder unexpectedly released a small reserve in June, which disappeared within a week, supercharging the hype around the $199 watch.

The little reveal

Wallner is keen to point out on her Substack post that the 1995 Intrepid is big. She likens it on her wrist to the massive watches worn by supermodels during the late 1990s and early 2000s, but she concedes that the look is not for everyone.

As a relatively slender-wristed man, I’m uncomfortable wearing a case larger than 42mm and prefer to stay below 40mm. This preference is as much about appearance as feel.

So I was thrilled when Wallner teased, “The Dimepiece edition, which is a full 10mm smaller and is coming out later this summer.” If my elementary math serves me, that means the Dimepiece edition of the 1995 Intrepid will have a 36mm case.

It remains to be seen how the drastic shift in size will affect the look of the dial and the distinctive slide rule bezel. No other clues have been divulged about the watch’s appearance.

Availability and pricing

Wallner revealed a vague release date of “later this summer,” so we’re left to speculate that the 36mm 1995 Intrepid Dimpiece edition will be available in either July or August.

In the meantime, a handful of the original 1995 Intrepid Reissues are still available from Foundwell.
