Welcome to Talking Points, a series that looks at what makes certain products worth talking about, brought to you by Gear Patrol Studios.
Hamilton’s watches have been featured in more than 500 major films since 1932, and the brand has a history of collaborating with studios to create specialty timepieces.
Filmmaker Denis Villeneuve asked Hamilton to create a custom “Desert Watch” for his film, Dune: Part Two. To execute this request, the brand worked alongside the film’s prop master to create a watch that looks out of this world. While the “Desert Watch” is exclusive to the film, the process inspired Hamilton to launch two limited-edition watches — the Hamilton Ventura XXL Bright Dune Limited Edition and the Hamilton Ventura Edge Dune Limited Edition — for the movie’s release that come with commemorative packaging.

The Backstory
Hamilton Watch: Timing Heroes
Hamilton has been making watches since 1892, when the company was founded in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Its watches were trusted to synchronize the country’s first railroads, and they kept time for soldiers and aviation heroes.
The brand eventually became the go-to watch for Hollywood and its custom pieces appeared in a number of blockbusters to help shape authentic storylines and characters. Hamilton combines the best of both worlds: an American spirit combined with Swiss precision.

Why Are the ‘Dune: Part Two’ Watches Worth Buying?
The Dune: Part Two watches are truly inspired timepieces that evolved directly from a cinematic masterpiece. The sequel film takes the audience on a mythical journey of revenge, love and the fate of the universe. It’s an otherworldly film and the watches have a distinct otherworldly feel — instead of a traditional look, their sturdy black cases are uniquely angular with light-reflecting edges.
The Hamilton Ventura XXL Bright Dune Limited Edition ($1,750) features a 52 x 46.6mm stainless steel case with black PVD coating and a black dial that lights up in a bright blue hue — to match the Fremen’s eyes — when activated. The brass hour, minute and second hands sit behind a sapphire crystal glass. The watch features a Quartz movement and is water resistant up to 50 meters.
The Hamilton Ventura Edge Dune Limited Edition ($2,500) is slightly larger and has a Quartz digital movement, sapphire crystal glass with double anti-reflective coating and is water resistant up to 100 meters.
