The MoonSwatch Just Joined One of the Watch World’s Hottest Trends

April’s upcoming lunar event was an excellent excuse for the MoonSwatch to embrace a bold and surging watch color.

Less than a year ago, our resident watch expert editor, Johnny Brayson, hailed 2024 as the year of the pink watch, and for good reason. Not even halfway into the year, brands ranging from Tudor and TAG Heuer to Moser and Grand Seiko introduced new pink-dialed releases in various shades.

Even Swatch’s other affordable collaboration line made of bioceramic – the Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms – already has a pink version out.

Now, after first getting an initial tease on the wrist of Swatch Group’s CEO Nick Hayek during the company’s annual earnings press conference (as Fratello keenly noted), a new pink MoonSwatch has officially joined the color club, too.

A Pink MoonSwatch for a Pink Moon

The latest entry in the MoonSwatch family is officially called the Mission to the Pink Moonphase in honor of the first full moon in April 2025, scheduled for Saturday, April 12th.

Though the moon is called a Pink Moon, it won’t look pink. It might look slightly orange and small in some places, though, since the moon is at its furthest point from Earth in its orbit.

It’s simply called a pink moon in acknowledgment of the onset of spring in the northern hemisphere and the flowers that often bloom during the season.

Experts in MoonSwatch lore might also remember that last year’s gorgeous MoonSwatch Mission to the Super Blue Moonphase celebrated the opposite lunar event.

Distinguished by Details

Functionally, the new moonphase-equipped MoonSwatch boasting a black and silver-pink opaline dial works precisely like previous editions equipped with the same complication.

But in this case, the two moons on the subdial naturally appear pink. The theme extends to the dark as well. Shining a UV light on the moon phase will also reveal the words “Pink Moon” in pink emission Super-LumiNova, which also glows up the rest of the dial elements.

The crown is arguably the most notable detail of the watch though. A small pink heart feels aesthetically very on theme and we’ve never seen it on another MoonSwatch. But it’s also a clever nod to the watch’s functionality.

That’s because the bezel of the Mission to Pink Moonphase, like the MoonSwatch Mission to the Super Blue Moonphase, features a pulsometer scale, which means the chronograph can be reference to measure someone’s pulse.

A wearer just needs to start the chronograph when they begin feeling a pulse. Stopping the chronograph after 30 beats and then referencing the scale will then provide a heart rate in beats per minute.

But Not the Easiest to Get

Many iterations of the MoonSwatch are now much easier to buy than in the months after the model launched. Some are even available to purchase online.

But scoring the Mission to the Pink Moonphase will be more of a challenge.

The Mission to the Pink Moonphase sounds like it’ll be more challenging to buy. Swatch says it will be available starting on April 1st for “a limited time” at “selected Swatch sales locations,” which includes Swatch’s fleet of Fiat Cinquecento MoonSwatch-vending cars, now called “pink rolling planets”

In case that last bit sounds vague, it’s because it nods at models being available at both Swatch boutiques and via Swatch’s fleet of Fiat Cinquecento MoonSwatch-vending cars, now called “pink rolling planets” for this release, the locations of which will be revealed via social media posts.
