Germany has an unrivaled reputation for mechanical craftsmanship.

So, a renowned German watchmaker teaming up with an accomplished German auto-tuning company promises something exciting.

Fortunately, the Stowa Chrono ABT 24h Limited delivers for racing enthusiasts.

ABT Sportsline’s inaugural participation in the 24 Hours at Nürburgring auto race is the occasion for this noteworthy Bavarian collaboration. The brand’s accomplished racing team is entering two cars in partnership with Lamborghini into the 2025 race.

While not quite as impressive as the tuned-up Italian supercars competing in the race, the special edition take on Stowa’s Big Eye chronograph beautifully represents the age-old overlap between cars and watches.

The 44mm steel chronograph has a matte black PVD coating paint job with black and red detailing on the dial. Somewhat confusingly, given the name, it has a 30-minute chronograph complication, with a totalizer placed at three o’clock.

A day at the races

Technically speaking, this chronograph is tied to a specific race, but not an official sponsor. This puts it in the same category as the TAG Heuer Monaco, which was never officially affiliated with the Monaco Grand Prix, and the Rolex Daytona, which never formally represented the Daytona 500.

The dual-signed dial features Stowa’s logo at twelve o’clock and ABT’s logo sandwiched between the hands and a “24h” graphic designed specifically for the watch.

A third brand is also subtly represented on the dial. The Y-shaped texture is borrowed from the grills found on the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 driven by ABT’s racing team.

The dial is marked with a conservative amount of lume, embedded in the hour hand, minute hand and applied hour markers. Additionally, a small date complication is tucked away at six o’clock.

Under the hood

Like the rest of Stowa’s Big Eye chronograph line, the Chrono ABT 24h Limited is powered by a Sellita caliber SW510 automatic movement. However, this reference displays a specially decorated balance wheel visible through a sapphire crystal exhibition case back.

The customized Swiss movement features an engraved Stowa Chrono logo filled with black lacquer, flanked by an etched ABT logo to one side and each watch’s number out of the 50-piece collection to the other.

It is equipped with a standard-issue automatic chronograph complication, operated by two piston pushers adjacent to the crown. It registers on a 30-minute counter at three o’clock and has a modest 48-hour power reserve.

The Chrono ABT 24h Limited is a watch made by racing enthusiasts for racing enthusiasts, specifically German auto racing. Mechanically, it is reliable but unimpressive. The charm is in what the watch represents and its extreme scarcity.
