Seiko’s Latest Affordable Watch Is a Modern Classic with Retro Roots

Seiko’s Presage Style 60s collection was introduced in 2020, but the retro-inspired design is finally hitting its stride.

Featuring gorgeous new dial colors, a recently introduced five-link steel bracelet and a new two-tone brown leather strap, it is fair to call this a new high point for the young collection.

Hidden beneath the bold visual updates, Seiko shifted the Presage Style 60s date window for the third time in five years. It started at three o’clock with a frame, shifted to a discrete round window at 4:30 and is now at six o’clock with the original frame design rotated 90 degrees.

All of the technical specs remain unchanged. It still runs on the workhorse caliber 4R36 automatic-manual hybrid movement, has a 39.5mm steel case topped with hardlex crystal and Lumibrite inlays on the hands and titling the applied hour markers.

Embracing the season

Seiko fans have often framed the Presage line as an affordable alternative to Grand Seiko, most notably with the defunct SARX “Baby Grand” collection. The new Style 60s drop follows its loftier cousin’s penchant for referencing natural landscapes and seasonal color palettes.

All three dial colors are springtime pastels that offer refreshing splashes of color to the typically demure Prospex line. The Ice Green makes for a perfect summer watch and follows 2025’s hottest color trend, while the Silvery Violet looks closer to white with only a hint of purple.

The Golden Yellow dial skews more toward the former than the latter, with a gilded appearance in direct light. All three dials have a faint horizontal brush texture, which is most pronounced on this one.

It also introduces an entirely new two-tone leather strap to the Presage family. The brown leather, combined with the walnut color of the steel bezel insert, accentuates the golden dial by mimicking the decor of a 1960s business office.

Seiko’s Presage collection is vast and offers designs that appeal to various tastes. For a long time, the SRPB “Cocktail Timer” collection has been the consensus favorite among fans, and Seiko has recognized this with a large assortment of dial textures.

Since its introduction in 2020, the Style 60s collection has steadily gained ground on the stalwart old dress watch. This beautiful new assortment of dial colors and interesting date window adjustment may be enough to take the lead.

For what it’s worth, I think the Ice Green dial Style 60s is the best-looking watch in the entire Presage collection and one of my favorite designs since the SRPB033 and SARB035, which predate their Presage categorization.

A quick glance through Seiko’s current Presage line reveals that the Cocktail Timer and Style 60s are taking precedence. The Japanese horological powerhouse appears to be repositioning the Style 60s as a marquee design, and these three new dial colors are an excellent way to flesh out the collection.

Availability and pricing

The three new Presage Style 60s references are available for pre-order now from the UK Seiko Boutique for $575. However, that seller does not ship outside of the UK.

All three colors are set to release in June and should become available in the American market then.
