  • Rolex has launched a new version of its left-handed GMT
  • The watch keeps the previous black-and-green “Sprite” bezel but adds a green dial
  • The dial is made of Cerahrom, making it Rolex’s first ceramic dial ever

While not as shocking or groundbreaking as the Land-Dweller, one of Rolex’s other new watches launched today at Watches and Wonders Geneva also marks an intriguing first for the brand.

Back in 2022, Rolex surprised us with the launch of a left-handed GMT-Master II. The watch was in stainless steel and featured a black dial with a black-and-green Cerachrom ceramic bezel. Most notably, the crown and date were both on the left side of the case at 3 o’clock, making it the only “destro” model in The Crown’s catalog.

Now, the Sprite has a fraternal twin. Rolex has released another left-handed GMT-Master II with a black-and-green Cerachrom bezel, but there are two big differences between it and the original Sprite from three years ago.

For one, the case and bracelet are made of white gold rather than Oystersteel. That makes this new watch a bit flashier, a lot heavier, and a whole lot more expensive. But the most significant difference can be found in the dial.

The new Sprite features a green dial that is matched perfectly to the green found on the Cerachrom bezel. So, how was Rolex able to match its colors so perfectly? Easy. The dial is made of Cerachrom.

This marks the first time that Rolex has ever made a watch with a ceramic dial. The main benefits of ceramic are its scratch resistance and resistance to fading. Dials don’t get scratched, you may be thinking, but they do fade. With a ceramic dial, you’ll never have to worry about your green Sprite dial fading — it will look new forever.

The new Rolex GMT-Master II, reference 126729VTNR, is available now from the brand (theoretically) for $46,750.
