Rolex Puts Its Stamp on Quiet Luxury with a New GMT-Master II

Headlining Rolex’s 2024 catalog is a new stainless steel GMT-Master II that now represents the collection’s most understated offering.

Despite the rumors, there was no new Coke GMT at this year’s Watches and Wonders — at least from Rolex. But the Crown did unveil a new GMT-Master II in Oystersteel. Reference 126710GRNR features a black-and-gray Cerachrom bezel that’s decidedly less flashy than the Pepsi, Batman or Sprite. Rolex offers this new variant on both the Jubilee and Oyster bracelets.

This Is Rolex’s Most Subtle GMT-Master II

So who is this GMT for? Well, all of Rolex’s current GMTs in Oystersteel have been a bit flashy, with either bright red, green or blue colors on their polished Cerachrom bezels.

The latest version, which as of now has no nickname, is much more subtle with its monochrome styling, offering a more low-key GMT for those looking to avoid attention.

A Touch of Déjà Vu

If you’re thinking this GMT looks a bit familiar, you’re not wrong. The black and gray ceramic bezel was actually introduced last year on the reference 126713GRNR. That watch, however, was in “Rolesor,” which is Rolex code for steel and yellow gold two-tone. Now that we have an all-steel version, that means the price point — at least at retail — will come in much lower.

There’s something else familiar about this new GMT for Rolex fans. The green “GMT-MASTER II” lettering on the black lacquer dial, along with the green painted GMT hand, recall Rolex’s previous all-black GMT-Master II, ref. 116710LN, which was produced from 2007 — 2019 and featured the same green accents.
