  • Patek Philippe has introduced two new references to the Cubitus collection in a more manageable 40mm size
  • Both options are also the first white and rose gold references for the series

Patek’s Cubitus Collection was one of, if not the biggest bombshells in watchmaking last year. It was also one of the most controversial if you give any credence to purists with intensely calcified beliefs about what brands should and shouldn’t do.

This isn’t the venue to recap all of the debates concerning the Cubitus launch, but there are some obvious highlights to hit on for context.

The green-dialed Cubitus reference 5821/1A was arguably the most intriguing entry included in the initial Cubitus launch back in 2024, given its sporty looks and stainless steel case.

Patek’s stainless steel sports watches are among the most coveted timepieces on earth, so any new reference joining that elite company was assured to steal the watch world’s attention (no pun intended).

On the flip side, square-shaped watches aren’t for everyone, and the Cubitus’s nontraditional “elegant sporty” form factor didn’t sit well with many. But another more pragmatic point of contention was its size.

The Cubitus’s design nods to Patek’s famed and beloved Nautilus only amplified the intrigue and debate, especially considering that the Nautilus was initially met with skepticism when it debuted in 1976.

A Much More Approachable Size

Patek Philippe Cubitus
At 40mm, the new white and rose gold Cubitus references are sized well for a wider range of wrists compared to the first three 45mm Cubitus models.

At 45mm, the initial Cubitus references weren’t compatible with a wide range of wrist sizes.

Patek wasn’t oblivious to this fact, given how quickly it’s addressed this situation now with a pair of new Cubitus 40mm references revealed at Watches & Wonders Geneva 2025.

Given its squarish shape, it’s worth clarifying that the 40mm measurement is obtained by measuring diagonally from corner to corner.

The new 40mm Cubitus references are technically slightly thicker than the bigger 45mm Cubitus references, but only by .02mm.

As someone with a tiny wrist who had the fortune of trying them on at the show, I can confidently say the new smaller iteration is a game-changer in terms of wearability and, I suspect, mass appeal for the line moving forward.

Technically, at 8.5mm thin, these 40mm references are also slightly thicker than their 45mm counterparts, which measure 8.3mm thin.

Both models feature the same automatic caliber 26-330 S C movement as the original Cubitus references.

Now in Gold

While the smaller form factor is a definite win, there’s also a catch, at least for fans hoping for more stainless steel references. Both of the new 40mm references are only available in precious metal.

They’re both the first all-gold options in the Cubitus family, adding a new case material to a mix that already includes platinum, stainless steel and two-toned rose gold and stainless steel.

The rose gold 7128/1R now feels like the dressiest reference in the Cubitus family.
Patek Philippe

The 7128/1R is offered in rich rose gold and paired with a sunburst brown, horizontally embossed dial with matching rose gold hour markers coated in white lume.

The 7128/1G is a much more traditional-looking Patek sports watch in white gold with a blue-gray sunburst dial.

Patek Philippe has introduced two new references to the Cubitus collection in a more manageable 40-millimeter size, down from the 45-millimeter case that debuted in 2024. Available in white gold and rose gold, they are the first two precious metal offerings in the collection. Technically, at 8.5mm thin, these 40mm references are also slightly thicker than their 45mm counterparts, which measure 8.3mm thin. It runs on a Patek Philippe caliber 26‑330 S C/434 automatic movement, visible through an exhibition case back.
