Since its founding 120 years ago, Oris has been the little watch brand that could. The Hölstein brand remains independent among a sea of conglomerates with which it competes in the luxury space, and it continues to find new ways to impress year after year.

Arguably the most impressive achievement from Oris to date is its in-house Calibre 115 movement. Unveiled with the original ProPilot X back in 2019, the skeleton movement represented a massive leap for the brand’s manufacture with a whopping 10-day power reserve and new levels of refinement.

Now, five years later, Oris has launched a new version of the ProPilot X Cal. 115 that’s arguably the best iteration yet.

Snake Eyes

The new ProPilot X was created to celebrate the upcoming Year of the Snake in the Chinese calendar. The watch’s design takes inspiration from both the animal and the Chinese zodiac’s corresponding element for 2025: wood.

Wood is represented by the color cyan in the Chinese zodiac, a sort of blue-green that just so happens to look amazing on a watch dial. Oris has used the color liberally on the skeletonized dial of the new ProPilot X, creating a new level of contrast in the watch that was absent in the all-gray original.

It just so happens that cyan, which represents the Chinese zodiac element wood for 2025, looks great when paired with dark gray titanium.

The watch’s serpentine influence is a bit more subtle, but once you notice it, it’s sure to put a smile on your face. The hand for the large power reserve display — remember, this watch has ten days of power on tap when fully wound – is golden and in the shape of snake’s tongue, complete with undulations and a forked tip. It’s fun.

Flip the watch over, and you’re treated to a full view of the Calibre 115 movement, including an unobstructed view of the massive mainspring barrel that allows for the week-and-a-half power reserve. Surrounding the display window, the caseback features engravings commemorating the Year of the Snake and the limited nature of the watch.

Everything else on the watch is the same as on previous versions of the ProPilot X, including the titanium construction, the turbine-inspired bezel and crown, the snake-like integrated bracelet and the joy-inducing, aircraft-inspired “Lift” clasp.

Pricing and Availability

With its cyan skeletonized dial and snake tongue hand, the Year of the Snake Edition is definitely the prettiest and most fun version of the ProPilot X Cal. 115 we’ve seen yet. It’s also one of the rarest.

The watch is limited to just 88 pieces, a lucky number in Chinese numerology, and is priced at $9,100, a premium of $200 over the standard ProPilot X Cal. 115. It’s available now from Oris boutiques, including online.
