Back in 2023, Oris shocked the watch world when it launched the ProPilot X Kermit Edition. A partnership with Disney’s The Muppets, the watch combined the brand’s ultramodern and utilitarian ProPilot X titanium pilot’s watch with a bright green dial and an image of Kermit the Frog on the date disc that appears on the first of every month.

On paper, it’s a strange watch. In person, it’s arguably even stranger. But its juxtaposition of a contemporary and angular serious tool watch with the decidedly unserious leader of The Muppets inexplicably worked wonderfully. The watch looks good, it’s interesting and, most of all, it’s absurdly fun.

Since its debut two years ago, the Kermit has grown from an anomaly to become one of the Hölstein brand’s most recognizable models. So perhaps it is unsurprising that today Oris has launched a follow-up to the Kermit with its second Muppet-themed watch.

Naturally, the new ProPilot X is modeled after Kermit’s longtime porcine companion, Miss Piggy.

Hi Ya!

Miss Piggy is known for her glamour, and the new ProPilot X does a solid job of capturing her essence.

The dial of the watch is matte and slightly textured like on the Kermit Edition, except here it’s a very bold hot pink. The dial text and indices are in different shades of pink, which allows the color — which has been trending in the watch space recently — to really take center stage here.

Adding an extra touch of class is a baguette-cut diamond that stands in for the index at 12 o’clock, something I’m sure Piggy, a longtime material girl and fashionista, deeply appreciates. You’ll also notice there’s no date on the dial, which means there’s nowhere for the Muppet to show her face like Kermit.

But don’t worry, Piggy still makes an appearance, and you can see her every day instead of just once a month. Turn the watch over and you’ll see a small mineral glass window on the polished caseback. Through this window, you can view Piggy’s portrait on the lilac-colored rotor.

It’s Easy Not Being Green

The Miss Piggy watch is much more than a pink version of the Kermit watch. It actually accomplishes a couple of firsts for the ProPilot X line. For one, it’s smaller than the standard collection (to which the Kermit Edition belongs), clocking in at just 34mm across the case rather than 39mm.

It’s also the first time a ProPilot X has been crafted in a material other than titanium.

For Miss Piggy, Oris turned to stainless steel, and it was absolutely the right decision. Steel is more lustrous than titanium, and the use of the material here gives the watch far more glitz and glam than we’ve ever seen on a ProPilot X watch before. It meshes well with the pink dial and diamond index to create a flashier, more fab watch for the barnyard animal-turned-supermodel.

The movement is also a first for the product line. Instead of an in-house movement like other ProPilot X watches, Oris fitted the Miss Piggy edition with a Sellita SW100-based Cal. 531 movement. It’s a simple, Swiss-made, no-date automatic that lacks the fancy features of Kermit’s Cal. 400 movement, but with the benefit of keeping the cost of the watch down.

Pricing and Availability

Many balked at the Kermit Edition’s $4,900 price tag when it debuted in 2023, but I think people will have the opposite kind of sticker shock when seeing the Miss Piggy Edition’s $3,200 SRP. I, for one, was expecting it to cost a good deal more.

I actually like this model better than the Kermit Edition. The shade of pink used is gorgeous, and the single diamond adds some visual interest without going overboard. (I’m not usually a fan of diamond watches.) The smaller size and shinier polished steel also transform the rugged design of the ProPilot X into something else. It’s still sporty and daring, but it’s been softened and dressed up just a bit.

The entire package just looks gorgeous. I would absolutely buy one of these and wear the hell out of it, even if Oris is pitching it more toward a female market. The watch is not limited, and it’s now available directly from Oris.
