Daniel Craig Just Teased Another Top-Secret Omega Seamaster Dive Watch

The actor formerly known as Bond has found a second career as Omega’s viral watch previewer.

Three years after he bid farewell to James Bond, Daniel Craig has found his next signature role.

No, I’m not talking about his two, soon-to-be-three films as detective Benoit Blanc in the Knives Out franchise. Nor am I referring to the actor’s buzzy turn in the new A24 drama Queer.

No, I’m talking about Craig’s role as the unofficial previewer of Omega‘s hottest upcoming watches. Although he’s no longer playing the role of James Bond, the actor remains an Omega ambassador — arguably its most important one, given the watches the brand has had him wear to recent events.

Craig’s viral new role kicked off almost exactly a year ago, in November 2023, when he wore the then-unreleased white Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional to the Planet Omega event in New York. People noticed the actor’s mystery watch, and it damn near broke the internet, with Omega going on to officially launch the white Speedy in March of this year.

Craig then pulled a similar stunt at the Summer Olympics in Paris back in August. He showed up to the festivities on behalf of Omega, the official timekeeper of the games, wearing a mysterious Seamaster Diver 300M with a black dial and bezel, a domed crystal, a no-date black dial with old-school waves, and a mesh bracelet. We were actually the first to break that story, and as of yet, Omega has not released this alluring no-date diver.

Now, Omega and Craig are at it again. The former 007 showed up at the 15th Annual Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science’s Governors Awards in Los Angeles on November 17, and on his wrist was yet another unknown Seamaster.

The Governors Awards are effectively a lifetime achievement award handed out by the Academy behind the Oscars. Craig was in attendence to present an award to Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the longtime producers and stewards of the James Bond franchise. But once again, it was what was on Craig’s wrist that stole the show.

The Seamaster worn by Craig appears to have the same general layout as the watch he wore to the Olympics. It has a mesh bracelet, a generously domed crystal, and a no-date dial with the old-school stamped waves as opposed to the flashier laser-engraved ceramic dial seen on the standard Seamaster Diver 300M.

Both watches appear to be based on the 60th-anniversary special edition Seamaster that was released in 2022, with the main difference being that they do not have the commemorative “60” on the bezel in place of the triangle and lumed pip.

A mock-up of what Craig could have worn at the Governors Ball from Omega Forums. However, I don’t believe Craig’s watch has a 60 on the bezel.

Craig’s latest watch differs from his Olympics Seamaster in a couple of significant ways, however. The most notable is the material. The watch is gold or bronze in color, and out of the gold alloys that Omega uses — Sedna Gold (rose gold), Moonshine Gold (yellow gold) and Bronze Gold (a mix of bronze and gold) — the new watch’s hue seems to match closest to the latter … though it’s difficult to tell from the photos.

Next is the color. Again, it’s a bit hard to tell from the images, but the bezel definitely appears to be reddish, possibly maroon or burgundy. It reminds me a bit of the bezel on the original Tudor Black Bay.

The dial looks like it’s black or brown. The indices and hands appear to have white lume, while the bezel markings look gold. All of the markings could also be done in Omega’s orangish-brown fauxtina lume as seen on the titanium “No Time to Die” Seamaster, which was the first watch to introduce the mesh bracelet, domed crystal and no-date dial to the line.

A Seamaster Revamp on the Way?

The fact that Craig has now worn two unreleased Seamasters that have the same design but in different materials suggests that we may be getting something more than a couple of special editions. I think we may be looking at the next iteration of the Seamaster Diver 300M.

Since its introduction in 1993, the line has been revamped in 2006, 2012 and 2018. Following the six-year lifespans of the last two generations, it would seem we’re due for a new Seamaster by year’s end. Omega has already confirmed that Craig’s Olympic watch will debut sometime later this year, so we may be very, very close to meeting the next generation of Omega’s flagship dive watch.
