Maybe the overall design of the Seamaster Diver 300M that Omega made for the 2021 James Bond film No Time to Die was so perfect that the brand has stuck with it ever since. Either that, or the film placement was used as a launching vehicle for the next generation of the iconic diver.

Either way, arguably the best Bond watch ever has spawned a series of fantastic dive watches, each more satisfying than the last.

Omega’s latest addition to the legendary dive watch line has a stainless steel case, a waveless matte black aluminum dial and a polished black aluminum bezel insert accented with white and orange.

Even though Omega refers to the new design as “Orange,” the bold color is tastefully sparse on the dial. It is only used on the seconds hand, the script “Seamaster” and framing the four cardinal hour markers.

It comes on the standard-issue steel mesh bracelet or on a traffic cone orange rubber strap with a folding clasp if you want to amplify the color scheme.

Keen-eyed Omega fans may recognize this particular color scheme from a limited-edition Speedmaster released in 2018, which became highly coveted on the resale market.

Return of Ultraman

The Omega Speedmaster “Ultraman” was a limited edition run of 2,012 pieces. Inspired by a deep-cut Speedmaster from 1967, it elaborated on the vintage reference’s orange chronograph seconds hand with more high-vis dial details, most notably on the indices and Speedmaster text — similar to this new Seamaster.

The name is another niche retro callback to the 1970s Japanese TV show Return of Ultraman, where a group of costumed superheroes fought Godzilla-like monsters. Ultraman wore a silver and orange costume that anyone who grew up watching Power Rangers would find extremely familiar.

The original 1960s Speedmaster with the orange seconds hand was worn on the series, sparking the vintage reference’s “Ultraman” nickname and inspiring the 2018 redux, which also featured an outline of the titular robot hero on running seconds counter that was only visible under a blacklight.

Even without any precious metals involved, the Speedmaster “Ultraman” is currently selling for $10,000 to $15,000 on the resale market after all 2,012 pieces sold out in under two hours upon being launched seven years ago. Surviving examples of the 1967 Speedmaster that originated the look are currently going for $30,000.

A subdued sporty vibe

The new Seamaster Diver 300M is arguably the best-looking addition to the line since the original No Time to Die reference. Like the Q Branch-issued piece, it is predominantly dark and matte, but orange and white detailing lighten things up.

It is not as flashy as the gold references and more subdued than the sporty white and blue dial designs that have come out in recent months. And, of course, the date complication is still absent from the dial.

Like its predecessors, this new Seamaster Diver 300M is powered by a METAS Master Chronometer-certified caliber 8806 automatic movement with a 55-hour power reserve.

While the two base strap options look great, if I were dropping $6,500 on this beautiful watch, I would spare an additional $190 to get Omega’s black and orange nylon NATO strap.

It brings the look even closer to the Speedmaster “Ultraman,” which came on a similar strap, and creates the best-looking version of this watch, in my opinion.

Following in the wake of two precious metal-laden references with prices that topped five figures, it is nice to see a more approachable and pragmatic Seamaster Diver 300M.

Last year, my colleague Johnny Brayson correctly predicted that this NTTD-inspired direction was the future of the Seamaster Diver 300M series, and man, the future looks bright.

Availability and pricing

The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Orange is available now from Omega and authorized dealers. It costs $6,800 on a steel mesh bracelet and $6,500 on an orange rubber strap with a steel folding clasp.

For an extra $190, you can complete the “Ultraman” look by adding an Omega nylon NATO strap to either reference.
