If Austin Butler at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and Timothée Chalamet courtside at a Knicks playoffs game are any indication, the trendiest move in men’s dress watches is to go ultra small.

More specifically, some famously stylish men are turning to women’s watches with case sizes in the 32mm to 30mm range.

Omega has just offered the perfect opportunity for non-celebrity gentlemen to cautiously test the waters with this shrunken version of its iconic dive watch.

This new Seamaster Aqua Terra 150, with a 30mm case, is marketed to women. However, it retains the classic aesthetic of its masculine predecessor, just smaller.

With 12 variants available at launch, including five different dial colors in steel, two shades of gold and a two-tone, men can choose to go as flashy or as subtle as they like.

It is the nature of progressively fashionable celebrities to push trends ever forward, bending the lines until they break. Although watch brands, Omega included, offer plenty of options in the 38mm to 36mm range, the desire is out there to go even smaller.

Undersized and overstated

Fashion trends tend to progress to a logical conclusion, then go a bit further, before reversing course. Twenty years ago, men’s shorts went below the knee, and now they are halfway up the thigh.

In a parallel manner, men’s watches approached desk clock size a couple of decades ago and are now reaching the opposite extreme. If I had to predict where the current men’s watch sizing trend would end, 30mm is a safe guess.

Omega’s 30mm take on the Seamaster Aqua Terra 150 is a far more conservative and timeless option for us non-celebrities, especially compared to Butler’s retro Breitling steel sports watch and Chalamet’s diamond-encrusted deep-cut Cartier.

Of course, most gentlemen will stick to the safe middle ground of 38mm to 40mm. Just as overly complicated dials aren’t for everyone, delicately undersized cases are a look few men would embrace.

Size doesn’t matter

Don’t let the size fool you; the 30mm Seamaster Aqua Terra packs nearly the same performance as the 41mm introduced in 2024. The only drop-off comes in power reserve, which falls from 60 hours in the larger design to 48 hours in the smaller.

Omega developed the new caliber 8750 and 8751 (for the gold references) specifically for the 30mm case.

Omega developed two new movements to accommodate the 30mm case size: the caliber 8750 for the steel models and the caliber 8751 for the gold references. Both feature Omega’s co-axial escapement and are METAS-certified, meeting the highest standard of Swiss watchmaking.

The elliptical case shape matches its 41mm counterpart exactly, but the bezel is more pronounced at this scale. A simplified dial features applied indices that slope inward toward the center, and the date window is now a circle.

The dauphine hands are pulled from Omega’s mid-century archive, although the second hand matches larger Seamaster Aqua Terra references.

By framing the new Seamaster Aqua Terra 150 as a unisex watch, Omega made a traditionally women’s-sized watch to the same standard as its men’s counterpart, which is not always the case.

Yes, half of the collection is decorated in diamonds and mother-of-pearl, but the other half consists of serious watches that will look classy and respectable on anyone’s wrist, regardless of gender.

It is the best non-vintage option I’ve seen for men who are interested in embracing the small watch trend.

Availability and pricing

The Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150 30mm is available now from Omega starting at $6,600 for the steel cases.
