Since its introduction in 2024, Bulova’s Super Seville has gradually earned a reputation as one of the best affordable daily watches.

It’s a reissue from the 1970s, defined by its era-specific TV dial and integrated bracelet, that looks as fashionable as ever and comes in a wide range of colors.

What sets the Super Seville apart from other respected daily-grinders in the sub-$1,000 category is Bulova’s caliber NM10 Precisionist quartz movement.

Even devout quartz haters must respect the Precisionist’s look and performance because it creates a perfectly smooth sweep of the second hand and is accurate to within +/- 10 seconds per year. This blows away any automatic movement ever made.

This remarkable movement inspired IFL Watches to create a custom dial highlighting its metaphorical connection to honeybees. Both are impressively precise, hum along at a high frequency and maintain a low profile.

Humming along

Development of the Precisionist movement was a joint venture between Bulova and Miyota. Even though both companies are owned by Citizen, the Precisionist movements are used exclusively in Bulova watches and are among the very few High Precicion Quartz movements, also called Ultra High Frequency movements, in existence.

The Precisionist uses a three-pronged quartz crystal that vibrates 262,144 times per second and beats eight times faster than a standard quartz movement. This creates the clean sweep of the seconds hand and the astonishing accuracy.

IFL points out that a honeybee beats its wings 200 to 300 times per second and creates a perfect hexagonal honeycomb structure every time. Because of their ceaseless effort collecting pollen and turning it into honey, they earned a reputation as nature’s hardest-working insect.

A pretty sweet dial

IFL stripped down the Super Seville dial to create a clean canvas for the honeycomb texture. The hour window, corresponding Cyclops crystal, applied hour markers, brand logo, Precisionist logo and the sandwich hour and minute track have all been removed.

This isn’t the first textured dial on the Super Seville, with a stone dial series released in late 2024 with Complecto, but those only removed the hour markers.

The only other detail added is a honeybee doodle counterbalance on the seconds hand.

The dial consists of a brushed steel plate covered with a white honeycomb structure resembling the one famously used by Rolex. Each dial in the 500-piece collection is hand-painted with honey drops in different patterns so that no two watches are identical.

The result is a sleeker, stripped-down version of Bulova’s timelessly stylish workhorse — or, should I say, worker bee — watch. The individuality created by the hand-painted dial may be enough for some to justify the watch’s increased price point.

Availability and pricing

The IFL Watches Bulova Super Seville Honeycomb is available now for $1,190 from IFL Watches.

It is a limited edition of 500 pieces, and each watch is individually painted so that no two dials sport the same honey drop pattern.
