One of the biggest hits to come out of the minds at Casio in recent years is the G-Shock 2100 series.
Initially launched as an ultra-affordable all-resin model in 2019, the watch’s Octagonal bezel instantly drew aesthetic comparisons to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, earning the watch the colloquial nickname “CasiOak” among fans.
G-Shock has not shied away from the comparisons and over the past five years the brand has massively expanded the 2100 series to include a steel bezel, full steel case and bracelet and, most recently, an all-analog full-steel chronograph version.
Earlier this year, G-Shock finally added the 2100 form factor to its top-of-the-line MR-G line with a blacked-out titanium version priced at $4,800, further blurring the lines between the CasiOak and the actual Royal Oak. Now, G-Shock has a new MR-G 2100 in gray titanium that looks even more like the real deal, making this new CasiOak the closest I’ve seen to scratching that Royal Oak itch.

A Royal CasiOak
Unlike virtually every other CasiOak, the new G-Shock MRGB2100D-1A is a legitimate luxury watch. A “royal” CasiOak, if you will (sorry).
Like its blacked-out predecessor, the watch features a full titanium case, bezel and bracelet. But that’s not all. G-Shock has employed a variety of unique titanium alloys that boast hardness ratings several times greater than standard Grade 2.
