This Very Weird G-Shock Could Become a Collector’s Holy Grail

It’s available for the unbeatable price of zero dollars.

Christmas has come early for some lucky G-Shock fans in the UK.

Casio has teamed up with KFC UK&I, the branch of KFC serving the United Kingdom and Ireland, to create a special-edition G-Shock for the holidays. But don’t bother getting out your wallet: The watch is actually free.

Here’s how to get it.

Christmas in Japan (and the British Isles)

You may be scratching your head at the collab, but it kind of makes sense.

Eating at KFC is a longstanding Christmas tradition in Japan, and since G-Shock is a Japanese brand, a KFC collab for the holidays is kind of a perfect match. So why, then, is this collab only available in the UK and Ireland instead of Japan? Well, that I don’t have an answer for, but it might just be because the UK branch of KFC is pretty wacky, judging from their social media presence.

As for the watch itself, it’s a slightly modified version of the existing GA2100, the entry-level version of the “CasiOak” with a resin case and strap, 200m of water resistance and an ana-digi display.

The KFC watch is bright red and almost distinguishable from the standard red reference GA2100-4A, save for the addition of KFC branding. There are small white KFC logos on the strap near the case, and then a far larger KFC logo further down the strap, also in white.

Outside of the bold KFC branding on the strap, the collab basically looks like your everyday red G-Shock 2100.

A standard GA2100-4A retails for $99, but this KFC version is quite a bit cheaper — as in, it’s free. The catch is that they’re only making 11 of them, making this one rare (fried) bird.

The combination of extreme rarity and fast-food novelty should make this a sort of Holy Grail for G-Shock collectors, and I can see this going down as Casio’s equivalent to the beloved Domino’s-branded Rolexes of yesteryear — though this is much, much rarer.

To get yours, you’ll have to have a British address — the watches will only ship to the UK and Ireland. You’ll also need to be exceptionally fast and lucky. The watches will be released one at a time for 11 days in a row beginning on December 14, with each becoming available to claim at 11:11 am GMT on the dot at the online KFC UK&I Shop.
