Many words can be used to describe a G-Shock.

Tough. Rugged. Indestructible. Practical. Utilitarian. But beautiful?

That’s not a word I’ve personally ever used to describe one of G-Shock’s quartz-powered tool watches, but the brand’s latest effort has me second-guessing myself.

CasiOak Meets G-Steel

Ever since G-Shock introduced its octagonal 2100 line in 2021, the affectionately nicknamed “CasiOak” has been a favorite thanks to its combination of Audemars Piguet Royal Oak-inspired looks and typical G-Shock toughness and affordability.

We’ve seen all-resin versions and beastly full-metal iterations, and now G-Shock has effectively combined the two by creating a 2100 watch in its G-Steel line, meaning it gets a stainless steel bezel-capped, glass-reinforced resin case paired with a stainless steel bracelet.

This construction means the watch — dubbed the GM2110D — looks just as metallic as the GMB2100 Full Metal CasiOak, but its resin body allows it to be lighter and thinner without sacrificing any shock resistance. It’s a full millimeter thinner and 19 grams lighter than the Full Metal version.

A Thing of Beauty

Lightness and thinness aside, the real headline-grabber of this new model, in my humble opinion, is the way it looks. The previous Full Metal CasiOaks definitely have more of a utilitarian design. They’re big and bulky, and most options have flat, black dials.

The new GM2110D, by contrast, puts a lot of focus on the dial of the watch to make it legitimately beautiful. The watch uses a metal dial that’s undergone multiple treatments to give the surface luster and color, while a recessed ring just inside the chapter ring provides depth and additional sheen thanks to its metallic finish.

There are five dial colors at launch, and most of them are a lot more vibrant than what we’re typically seeing on a G-Shock. Orange, Lime Green and Sky Blue are the most eye-catching and unique, while Navy and Silver are more demure while still being plenty attractive.

Because of their part-resin construction and the lack of advanced features like Bluetooth and Tough Solar, the G-Steel CasiOak is priced at just $300, making it considerably less expensive than the Full Metal versions which start at $550 and can stretch into four-figure territory.
