Since its 2019 debut, the so-called “CasiOak” has won over countless hearts — and wrists — with its analog hands, (relatively) slim case and octagonal bezel reminiscent of the famous Audemars Piguet Royal Oak.

But the refined G-Shock also been on something of an iterative journey toward the famous watch that inspired its nickname, with a new analog chronograph version inching it closer than ever before.

Face value

Like most G-Shocks, early versions of the CasiOak — such as the GA2100-1A1 — arrived with the brand’s signature resin housing. Then, a few years later, Casio finally delivered a full-metal version, replete with a stainless-steel case, bezel and bracelet.

To date, the CasiOak series has always championed the ana-digi connection. However, the new model sees G-Shock lean further into the former by dropping the line’s LCD display in favor of a new chronograph dial. That means it’s the first in the series to feature an all-analog face.

Nonetheless, appearance can be deceiving. The GMC-B2100D remains every bit a tech-forward tool watch under the hood, with functions ranging from LED lighting to Tough Solar to Bluetooth-enabled Mobile Link.

The watch measures 51.3 x 46.3 x 12.4 millimeters and clocks in at 171 grams, making it both larger and heavier than the GM-B2100, albeit a little thinner.

A new screw-lock crown, shaped into an octagon to match the bezel, completes the package and further distinguishes it within the expanding CasiOak family.

Pricing and availability

The new analog chronograph version of the G-Shock comes in two colors — black (GMC-B2100D-1A) and ice-blue (GMC-B2100AD-2A).

Both models are live on G-Shock’s international website, with sales starting later this month.

For now, US availability remains up in the air. If and when they do arrive stateside, be ready to stretch your wallet. Pricing is expected to be around $800.
