The Doxa Sub 300 is one of the most iconic dive watches ever made. Debuting in the 1960s, the watch quickly made an impact with its dual-function bezel, its cushion case and its bright-orange dial.

Over the years, Doxa has vastly expanded its catalog with new takes on the Sub 300 with various dial colors and case materials — including carbon fiber — while also periodically releasing limited editions that further redefine what a Sub 300 can be.

Doxa’s latest limited-edition Sub 300 is a collaboration with Topper Jewelers, a nationally-known watch-focused jeweler out of northern California, that adds a couple of new chapters to the legendary diver’s story.

The Great White

Dubbed the Great White, Doxa’s new Sub 300 Topper Edition is quite the visual stunner. Its combination of a white dial with navy blue lacquered hands and indices looks fantastic and is meant to evoke the blue of the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California and the great white sharks that call the area home.

But the dial is more than a pretty face.

Turn out the lights, and the white dial reveals itself to be fully luminous. This is not the first time we’ve seen a fully lumed dial on a Sub 300, but it is the first time such a dial has glowed blue, a result of Doxa’s use of Super-LumiNova’s formula BGW9.

Another unique aspect of the dial that sharp-eyed Doxa fans will notice is the lack of a date. That’s because the movement powering this watch is a no-date Sellita SW200 automatic that’s been COSC-certified, making this the first Sub 300 ever to house a no-date chronometer movement.

Moving onto the bezel, we see Doxa’s usual dual-function bezel that combines an elapsed-time bezel with a depth indicator, with markings in blue lacquer to match the dial. But again, there’s something unique going on here. Unlike some of Doxa’s other models, the Sub 300 typically displays the depth in meters. But on this version, it uses feet instead — which is fitting since Topper is an American institution.

Pricing and Availability

As a limited edition, this Great White is rarer than the vulnerable species that inspired it, with Doxa producing just 100 examples of the watch.

Naturally, it’s available exclusively from Topper Jewelers. The watch is priced at $2,995, which includes both a beads of rice bracelet and an integrated white rubber strap with a deployant clasp.

Topper is also donating a portion of the sales to the Greater Farallones Association, a nonprofit that protects marine life and restores coastal habitats in the area surrounding the Devil’s Teeth.
