From the grandaddy Rolex GMT-Master to the affordable Seiko 5 Sports, GMT complications feel most at home on dive watches.

It may be because dive watches make ideal travel accessories thanks to their enhanced durability, legibility, and water resistance. Or it may be because the extra hand blends in best on sporty dials.

Regardless of the reason, GMT dive watches are a hot commodity these days. As one of the most iconic dive watch brands out there, it was only a matter of time before Doxa got in on the action.

Doxa dove into the increasingly crowded pool of dual-timezone divers with the Sub 250T GMT. Available in an impressive nine color options, it is a fully formed collection out of the gate.

The Sub 250T GMT sticks closely to Doxa’s signature design language, which is at the core of what fans love about the Swiss watchmaker. While it is ostensibly based on the Sub 750T GMT from 2006, recreating the same GMT hand and track, it closely resembles the flagship Sub 300T.

A Doxa and Some

The Doxa 250T GMT features an oval turtle shell stainless steel case with a dual-scale uni-directional bezel. A conventional 60-minute track is on the inner scale, and a no-deco timing scale is on the outside.

The latter tracks, based on an established chart, how long a diver can remain at certain depths before having to decompress on assent.

Much like the Sub 200T released in 2024, the Sub 250T is essentially a Sub 300T shrunken down from 42.5 millimeters to 40 millimeters. The one variance is the addition of a GMT hand and track, both of which are taken directly from the long-discontinued Sub 750T.

Doxa uses a Seilitta SW330-2 automatic movement to power the new GMT variance on its flagship diver. Notably, it is a caller-style movement, which allows the GMT hand to be set independently of the local time.

As the name suggests, this retro-style dive watch has a 250-meter dive rating, only 50 meters shy of the much bulkier Sub300T. If you ask me, the more discrete size is a welcome trade-off for a loss of depth that most owners would never utilize.

A Rainbow of Dive Watches

Another similarity between Doxa’s iconic Sub 300T and the new Sub 250T is the color assortment. With nine options available at launch, both lines have nearly identical dial and bezel designs.

Doxa’s well-established and intrepidly named Professional orange, Divingstar yellow, Sharkhunter black, Caribbean blue and Searambler silver dial options are all there, as are the new fan-favorite Sea Emerald, Whitepearl and Aquamarine.

Rounding out the collection is the unique Sharkhunter Vintage design, which features a gray sunburst dial and red-tipped arrow GMT hand. Although “vintage-inspired,” this is a new look for the heritage dive watch brand.

The appeal of Doxa’s return to the GMT diver market is that it doesn’t emphasize the added complication. Much like the brand’s last GMT, the Sub 750T GMT, it has a discrete 24-hour track tucked away at the edge of the dial and a minimally invasive wire frame GMT hand.

When watch brands add a GMT to an existing design, especially a beloved one, it is easy to disrupt the balance of a dial. Doxa treats the added complication like another tool in the toolbox and doesn’t let it take over the watch.

Availability and pricing

The Doxa Sub 250T is available now from Doxa and authorized dealers for $2,490 with a steel “beads or rice” bracelet and $2,450 with a rubber strap.

This is a general production collection, so all colors will be available indefinitely.
