Even if you’re new to the name Dennison, it won’t take long to love it.

In the first half of the 20th century, the UK company manufactured cases for brands like Rolex, Jaeger-LeCoultre and Omega.

Founded in the 1800s, Dennison spent much of the early 20th century manufacturing cases for other brands, such as Rolex and Omega.

These days, following a 2024 revival, Dennison occupies its own niche within watchmaking, starting with the deceptively affordable ALD Collection.

It hasn’t taken long to acquire fans in high places. And I’m not referring to myself — although I’ve had a Dennison watch on my wishlist since the brand relaunched late last year.

John Reardon, the former head of watches at Christie’s and founder of the Patek Philippe platform Collectability, liked the ALD watches so much, he bought one for himself — then each of his children.

Now Reardon has teamed up with Dennison directly for the Dennison x Collectability Sunray Dial Limited Edition, a timepiece born from Reardon’s love and expertise with vintage Patek Philippe references.

Like the stone-dialed watches within the ALD Collection, the new collab uses a cushion case that measures  37mm by 33.65mm, designed by Emmanuel Gueit of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore and Rolex 1908 fame.

Where the Sunray Dial Limited Edition starts to separate itself is with the luscious two-tone sunray dial that resembles (not-so-subtly) the Patek Philippe Ellipse, as well as lesser-known references like the 4183.

Though the watch comfortably sits closer to “homage” than “dupe” territory, the lack of a name on the dial may fool even the most experienced collectors, while simultaneously keeping the watch dazzlingly clean.

Inside, the watch also houses a Swiss Ronda quartz movement — a fact that not only keeps the watch thin (6.05mm) but shockingly affordable.

Despite looking like watches well into the tens of thousands, the Dennison x Collectability Sunray Dial Limited Edition costs just $690, a price that becomes even more impressive when you pair it with the bespoke leather strap.

The Sunray Dial Limited Edition is a collaboration between Dennison and Collectability, one of the world’s most authoritative sources for all things vintage Patek Philippe. The watch itself references the grail-worthy Ellipses, however, unique finishings keep it closer to “homage” than “dupe” territory. The best part? It clocks in at just $690.
