Vibrant colors are a significant part of dive watch history. The premium placed on legibility and the sporty nature of their use both encourage fun and eye-catching hues.

Christopher Ward‘s new C60 Trident Reef collection follows in the tradition of revered dive watch brands like Zodiac, Doxa and Squale.

It consists of five new references of the C60 Trident decorated in bold color combinations inspired by tropical reefs.

Each watch has a bright yet complementary accent color on the minute hand and a rubber dive strap, with the lone exception being the black dial, which has a black strap.

In keeping with Christopher Ward’s tradition of customization, the complete C60 Trident Reef collection is available in 41mm and 44mm cases. Additionally, the accent color rubber straps can be swapped out for a white rubber dive strap or a three-link steel bracelet.

A bold move

All five watches in the C60 Trident Reef collection have an anodized mid-case ‘sleeve’ that matches the color of the dial and aluminum bezel. This feature is new to Christopher Ward’s dive watch assortment.

Three members of the C60 Trident Reef collection follow the same pattern. The blue, orange and teal references each have white detailing on the dial and dive bezel and an accent color on the minute hand and rubber strap.

On the blue and teal dials, the hour hand, second hand, applied hour markers and Christopher Ward dial logo are all made of a polished metallic version of the dial color. For the orange dial, those details are steel.

The outliers are the black and white dial options. On the white one, all three hands and all dial and bezel markings take the sea foam green accent color. The only difference with the black dial is that the light blue accent color only appears on the minute hand.

Ticking away under the dial is the same Sellita caliber SW200-1 automatic movement found throughout Christopher Ward’s catalog, especially in its dive watches.

Going deeper

Aside from color, Christopher Ward added a few small design changes to the C60 Trident Reef collection. We’ve already covered the new case “sleeve,” so let’s move on to the dial.

Fans of previous Trident designs will notice that the date complication is gone, following the simplified three-hand dial of the Trident Lumiére released in 2024. This may disappoint some potential customers, but it does help to balance bold colors with clean design.

While the applied hour markers are the same as the Trident Pro, the printed minute track has been replaced with a wide, tiered chapter ring that adds depth to the dial. Cutouts wrap around the applied hour markers, emphasizing the three-dimensional detail.

Many previous iterations of Christopher Ward’s Trident dive watch have felt sleek and modern. The C60 Trident Reef collection offers retro flair for those who prefer dive watches from the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Even the black dial has more of a vintage vibe than previous Trident references, and it covers all the bases as an alternative for those with more subdued tastes.

Availability and pricing

The Christopher Ward C60 Trident Reef collection is now available for pre-order and will ship out at the end of July.

It costs $850 with one of the rubber dive straps and $1,035 with a steel three-link bracelet.
