An Affordable Fan-Favorite Dive Watch Gets Its Most Impressive Update Yet

The Twelve and Bel Canto may be Christopher Ward’s hottest watches. But an update to this signature diver proves it’s still the one to beat.

In an industry as old as watches, Christopher Ward would still be considered something of an upstart, even though the brand just celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2024.

And yet, CW — as its legion of fans often refer to the company — has already established itself as a force of watchmaking. Not only was it the first brand to exclusively sell its timepieces online, those watches have won the hearts of many a collector for their combination of quality materials and fair prices.

On that front, it’s The Twelve and Bel Canto that have found their ways onto the most wrists in recent years. However, CW’s signature dive watch isn’t giving up easy.

After a luminous, award-winning update in the fall, the Trident has now received a brilliant new dial by way of the C60 Sapphire Edge.

Out of the blue

The watch’s headlining feature is its ultrathin (0.6mm thick) blue-sapphire dial and matching caseback that together reveal a Sellita SW300 movement.

But several other updates save this release from being a reissue of the C60 Sapphire released in 2020, well as the standard C60 Trident Pro 300.

For starters, said movement is a millimeter thinner than the SW200-1, which enabled CW to shrink case to just 10.7mm thick (down from the 14.1mm, as seen on the original C60 Sapphire), a fact further accentuated by its 42mm case size.

What’s more, the SW300 is both more accurate and shock-resistant than the SW200-1, with a power reserve of 56 hours.

The total package

Like the dial, the bezel, too, is fashioned from sapphire for an added touch of brilliance. Still, this is a dive watch at heart — one rated to 300 meters, bezel and all.

Fans have the option of a bracelet or strap, however, there’s rare value to the latter in that it represents CW’s first-ever luminous strap. The brand says it uses FKM fluorocarbon rubber, which brings light visibility after dark, not to mention on some on-trend brownie points.

Pricing and availability

The C60 Sapphire Edge is available for preorder now, starting at $1,240 with the strap and moving up to $1,375 for the bracelet.

According to Christopher Ward, two percent of proceeds from each sale will go to its chosen charities, such as the Blue Marine Foundation and Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service.
