Swatch just released the eighth installment in the bioceramic Blancpain Scuba Fifty Fathoms line, and it is by far the boldest one yet.

Like its more famous cousin, the MoonSwatch, the Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms has always leaned on color variety as a primary selling point. Using bioceramics allows Swatch to reproduce both iconic designs in fun, playful hues that would have never made it past concept with the original specs.

When the collaboration was introduced in 2023, there were five color options based on the world’s five major oceans. Two more have since been added, a blacked-out nod to an “ocean” on the moon and the most recent Blue Lagoon.

Now, there is a bubblegum-colored version dubbed the Pink Ocean. This newest addition blows away the yellow-and-black Pacific Ocean and burnt orange Arctic Ocean as the boldest member of the lineup.

A rose by any other name

Though each Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms is named after a particular body of water, the color schemes come from sea creatures known as nudibranchs living in each aquatic domain (except for the moon, of course). The Pink Ocean draws inspiration from Ceratodoris rosacea, also appropriately known as Hopkin’s Rose.

The case, crown, and bezel frame are made of vibrant pink bioceramic. A matching shade decorates the bezel markings, hands, indices and dial. Lighter shades of pink are used for the resin bezel and sunburst faded dial.

Like the other watches in the series, the band follows the same color palette. It is primarily the same shade as the bezel, with a middle stripe that matches the case, flanked by two thinner white stripes.

Altogether, it is a lot of pink. If your budget allows, after dropping $400 on the watch, adding a black or navy blue band would tame things down and create a beautiful contrast.

An improved strap

Even if the color is not for you, this newest Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms provides one encouraging piece of information. The two-piece strap first used on the most recent Blue Lagoon, which replaced the excessively bulky NATO strap, appears to be the new standard for the collection.

As Gear Patrol editor Johnny Brayson detailed in his initial hands-on review of the watch, the 14.4 mm thick case is a wrist eater by itself. A traditional NATO strap adds two layers of fabric between the case and your wrist, making it unwieldy. Brayson found wearing it with a long-sleeve shirt to be virtually impossible.

The new two-piece strap follows the same sporty three-stripe design as the rest of the line. It is made of nylon derived from recovered fishing nets, a comforting thought for any diving aficionado considering this ticker.

Availability and pricing

Like every previous release from Swatch’s bioceramic Blancpain and Omega collections, the Pink Ocean is only available to purchase in person at select Swatch stores worldwide, at a price of $400.

That being said, three of the original five Scuba Fifty Fathoms are currently available for purchase on the Swatch website, so it is possible that the Pink Ocean will eventually become available online.
