When an aerobatic demonstration team requests an official timepiece, you know it will be a showstopper.

Bell & Ross has just released a fourth watch in collaboration with the Patrouille de France, the French equivalent of the Blue Angels. And while the elite group of fighter pilots is world-renowned for putting on high-flying spectacles, the gorgeous Bell & Ross BR-05 Chrono Patrouille de France might keep you looking down.

High-flying specs

In commemoration of the aerial unit’s 70th anniversary and to mark the establishment of the Paris-based urban unit, the existing BR-05 serves as a logical foundation for the collaborative timepiece. That’s because an integrated bracelet and rounded silhouette make it the most fashion-forward case design in Bell & Ross’s arsenal.

The team can track time and distance with a 30-minute chronograph powered by a BR-CAL.326 automatic movement with a 60 hour power reserve. A tachymeter printed on the dial flange and operated with two bumpers flanking the crown guard further outfits the watch.

To deal with the elements of low-altitude flight, the sapphire crystal has an anti-reflective coating, and a 100-meter water resistance rating doubles as protection against the g-force of super-sonic flight.

Vive la France

Custom graphics, a special dial color and a unique second hand make this one of Bell & Ross’s most attractive watches. The Patrouille de France logo, featuring eight jets trailed by the French Tricolour, takes the six o’clock spot on the dial.

A secondary logo featuring script writing is printed on the display case back. Each watch is individually numbered out of the 500-piece set along the bottom of the decal.

The dial color matches the uniforms of the flight team but functions as a sublime shade of blue that stands out among tool watches. The two-tone pairing with the sub-dials is reminiscent of chronographs from the 1970s. Cutting through the dial like a jet across the sky is a tiny airplane-shaped counterbalance on the second hand.

Pricing and availability

The Bell & Ross BR-05 Chrono Patrouille de France is set to release in early February and is available for pre-order now.

Two integrated band options are available: a steel bracelet for $7,400 and a calfskin strap for $6,900. The collection is limited to 500 pieces and will probably break the sound barrier on its way out the door.
