One of the hottest trends in the highfalutin world of luxury watches is the use of stone dials. As their name suggests, these are dials made from slabs of alluring real stones like malachite or tiger eye that add a touch of natural beauty to a watch.

Typically, such dials are reserved for expensive high-end watches from brands like Rolex and Audemars Piguet, but once in a while, a more affordable brand will get in on the action.

That’s exactly what’s happened with French microbrand Baltic, which has just launched three new limited-edition versions of its Prismic dress watch with exotic natural stone dials.

Stone-Cold Stunners

Baltic’s fancy new watches were created to celebrate the opening of the eight-year-old brand’s third showroom in New York earlier this summer. The small boutique is the French company’s first in the U.S. and joins its Paris and London showrooms in Baltic’s trio of global locations where fans of the online brand can get hands-on with its watches.

The three new Prismic Stone watches each feature a real stone dial that’s meant to represent the cities that play host to Baltic.

The addition of exotic stone dials to the already unique Prismic has resulted in a highly original and impressive watch from Baltic.

The Green Jade dial represents New York’s “vibrant spirit,” the Red Agate version is meant to evoke the “dynamism” of London and the Lapis Lazuli watch illustrates the “timeless elegance” of Baltic’s home city of Paris.

Each dial is cut from a thin slab of stone that’s thousands of years old, meaning every watch is unique. They’re quite beautiful as well, with each color offering its own patterns and personality — just like their respective cities, which was obviously the idea here.

Outside of the new stone dials, these are the same Prismic “cocktail watches” that Baltic released earlier this year featuring a unique five-part 36mm case made of stainless steel and Grade 5 titanium, a fitted steel mesh bracelet, a massively domed sapphire crystal and a super-thin manual-wind movement from ETA that’s decorated and visible through a sapphire caseback.

Pricing and Availability

I was already a fan of the Prismic since it doesn’t really look like any other watch on the market, and the addition of exotic stone dials only makes the watch more unique.

Best of all, these watches can be had for a fraction of most other watches with natural stone dials. Each of the three Prismic Stone watches is limited to 200 examples and priced at €1,310 (~ $1,454) on the bracelet. If you opt for a leather strap in place of the bracelet, you’ll save €60 (~ $67).

Lastly, while each of the versions is available for sale in its respective showroom (e.g., the Jade version is available in New York but not London or Paris), all three watches will also be sold on Baltic’s website starting on September 19.
