Snoopy watches aren’t just a trend; they’ve become an entire genre.

From the GOAT Omega Silver Snoopy Award editions to high-end collectibles from Franck Muller to affordable offerings from Timex, Swatch, Orient and more, there are now more than half a dozen brands producing watches starring the world’s most famous beagle.

We can now add another to the list, as ultra-affordable pilot’s watchmaker AVI-8 has come out of left field to unveil its own series of officially licensed Snoopy watches.

Pilot’s Watches for the Flying Ace

AVI-8 isn’t exactly the best-known brand in the world, so while this collaboration may seem odd at first, it actually makes a lot of sense. AVI-8 exclusively makes pilot’s watches (hence the name, a play on “aviate”), and one of Snoopy’s best-known guises is that of the World War II Flying Ace who engages in (imaginary) dogfights with the menacing Red Baron from atop his red doghouse-turned-Sopwith Camel.

The new AVI-8 x Peanuts collection consists of five watches, all of which are special versions of models from the brand’s existing lineup of pilot’s watches.

I’ll start with the watch I think will have the broadest appeal, the 43mm Hawker Hurricane Classic Chronograph Ace Black. It’s quartz-powered and features a three-register setup aligned vertically on the left side of the black dial. A fully-lumed Snoopy appears in his Flying Ace garb on the subdial at 9:00, while discreet Peanuts comics show up on the dial under black light.

Next is the 42mm Spitfire Smith Automatic Beagle Blue. The only automatic watch in the series, it’s the least-Snoopified, with UV-activated Peanuts comics again appearing as a pattern on the dial, which in this case is blue rather than black.

The P-51 Mustang Blakeslee Chronograph Biplane Brown has no shortage of Snoopy references on the dial.

Third we have the 43mm P-51 Mustang Blakeslee Chronograph Biplane Brown, which again features the UV-activated comic-strip dial pattern along with numerous Snoopy callouts. The Beagle appears piloting his doghouse between 6:00 and 8:00, his paw print acts as the counterweight of the seconds hand, and a “Flying Ace” label is applied between 1:00 and 2:00.

Lastly are two versions of the Flyboy Airmaster 40, both of which are three-hand watches that uniquely use mecaquartz movements. While such movements are usually reserved for chronographs, their use here allows the seconds hand of the running seconds hand to have a smoother sweep than a plain quartz watch.

The “Camel Brown” version of the Flyboy features a large Snoopy front and center with his arms acting as the watch’s hour and minute hands, while the tail of his scarf acts as the seconds hand. The “Doghouse Green” variant is more low-key, with Snoopy painted at 5:00 and his paw prints faintly appearing across the dial. Both versions feature bidirectional fluted bezels that use Snoopy’s pal Woodstock as their pointer.

Each of the five watches features a unique Snoopy-themed caseback, and they all come on a different leather strap with a distinct Snoopy lining. They also all feature various Snoopy Easter eggs activated under UV light, like paw prints and Snoopy silhouettes in addition to the aforementioned comic strips. Finally, each watch comes in special packaging shaped like Snoopy’s doghouse.

Pricing and Availability

AVI-8 teased these watches for weeks on social media ahead of their big reveal, and the brand seems to be anticipating a lot of demand. The watches are limited editions, so in an attempt to prevent flipping, customers will only be able to purchase one of each reference, with a limit of five total watches per email account.

Prices are decidedly affordable. The two Flyboys retail for just $210, the Hawker Hurricane lists for $235, the P-51 Mustang goes for $295 and the automatic Spitfire tops out the range at a very reasonable $330. The watches will go on sale on July 25, and you can sign up to be notified of their availability here.
