While OMEGA may have beaten Breitling to the punch with a “noir” astronaut’s watch (trendspotter alert!) this year with their Dark Side of the Moon Speedmaster, let’s not forget which chronograph was first in space: the Navitimer Cosmonaute, which rode on Mercury astronaut Scott Carpenter’s wrist in 1962. That Cosmonaute featured a manually wound chronograph movement and a unique 24-hour time display requested by Carpenter for time telling during multiple orbits.
This new Navitimer Cosmonaute features Breitling’s “Blacksteel” which has been used with stealthy success on other decidedly “unblingy” B’lings. Under the hood is a bona fide in-house B02 handwound Breitling calibre with 24-hour time display. The Empire Strikes Back.
