Editor’s Note: Watches & Wonders (formerly SIHH) has moved online and Baselworld 2020 is canceled, but that hasn’t stopped watch brands large and small from debuting their new wares. Stay on top of this year’s best new watch releases here.

Watchmakers big and small, high-end and affordable, are introducing their 2020 pieces online in place of this year’s canceled trade shows. Among the small but high-end sort is Parmigiani, the company started by a renowned horological restoration expert. The brand’s Toric Tourbillon watch is among its new releases, featuring a slate-colored dial and all the brand’s typically masterful craftsmanship.

Those familiar with high-end watchmaking and why tourbillons are so expensive perhaps won’t be shocked to see the Toric Tourbillon Slate priced more than double any other watch in the current Toric collection. The presence of a tourbillon is not all that contributes to its six-figure price, however: Produced in small numbers, almost every last component of Parmigiani watches are machined and painstakingly finished in house. The intricate tourbillon only compounds that work.

The 42.8mm case is in 18k red gold, and the movement was designed especially to keep the case thin at only 9.45mm, despite the tourbillon and automatic winding. The slate dial emphasized in the model’s name has a grain de riz (grains of rice) guilloché texture.

Interestingly, the global health situation means that even luxury watches like this are being made available for purchase online from the brand. The Parmigiani Toric Tourbillon Slate can be yours with the click of a button for the price of $130,000.
