Editor’s Note: Watches & Wonders (formerly SIHH) and Baselworld 2020 are canceled but that hasn’t stopped watch brands large and small from debuting their new wares. To stay on top of this year’s best new watch releases, visit our tag page.
Last year we wrote about the SA2 from Matthew Humphries Designs, a British firm whose founder was previously the chief designer at Morgan Motor Company. The SA2 is an automatic, automotive-inspired watch with 50m of water resistance and a distinctive case consisting of multiple parts. Sophisticated and handsome, it’s a a timepiece that likely flew under the radar for many watch enthusiasts — even fans of boutique and microbrands.
Now, MHD is releasing the SA2 in two new colors: Heritage White and Steel. Functionally identical to the original SA2 in black, they feature the Miyota 9039 automatic movement with 42 hours of power reserve, 22mm fixed spring bars and two “seat belt-style” NATO straps. The influences from dashboard gauges are clear in the sleek lines of the SA2 dial, and in a sea of affordable cookie cutter watches, it’s nice to see some design differentiation.
Both watches are limited editions of 100 pieces and are available now for ~$773.
