Editor’s Note: Watches & Wonders (formerly SIHH) and Baselworld 2020 are canceled but that hasn’t stopped watch brands large and small from debuting their new wares. To stay on top of this year’s best new watch releases, visit our tag page.
Panerai watches come in many flavors, but the most iconic is perhaps the Luminor with its protruding crown guard device, of which you can find versions in many combinations of size, features, configurations and dial colors. The latest release from the Italian brand is the Luminor Marina Carbotech PAM 1661, featuring a black carbon case material and jet black dial with striking pops of minty luminescence.
While measuring a typically beefy 44mm wide, the brand’s Carbotech carbon material keeps the watch’s total weight to just 96g, which helps make a large watch significantly more comfortable and wearable. True to its military diving roots, it’s water-resistant to 300m and has strong legibility due to the ample application of Super-LumiNova allowed by its two-layer “sandwich dial” construction. The lume is a minty blue that’s echoed in the fabric strap’s stitching.
Powered by Panerai’s in-house P.9010 automatic movement offering three days of power reserve, this is a classic Panerai Luminor but decked out in the latest technical materials and features, with a price of $12,800.
