Editor’s Note: Watches & Wonders (formerly SIHH) and Baselworld 2020 are canceled but that hasn’t stopped watch brands large and small from debuting their new wares. To stay on top of this year’s best new watch releases, visit our tag page.
In recent years, we’ve seen Casio offer up a few of its most iconic G-Shock designs in steel cases — like a full-metal version of the prototypical 5600 series — and it seems like the brand wants to keep the party going. Casio just announced three steel versions of the famous 6900 series and the resulting looks are pretty darn slick.
Like other G-Shocks, these GM-6900 watches maintain a resin inner case (reinforced with glass fibers) that’s then covered by an outer metal shell. To be clear, this isn’t just a way for Casio to cut costs. Plastics offer some incredible properties, such as shock resistance, apart from being lightweight and commutable on the wrist.
Availability is expected for February 2020, with prices starting at $180 for the bare steel GM6900-1, $220 for the black-coated GM6900B-4 and $230 for the gold-toned GM6900G-9. None will ship with Casio’s Tough Solar feature for solar charging or positive displays for better legibility, but we’re hoping those attributes trickle into future models down the road.
