Editor’s Note: Watches & Wonders (formerly SIHH) and Baselworld 2020 are canceled but that hasn’t stopped watch brands large and small from debuting their new wares. To stay on top of this year’s best new watch releases, visit our tag page.
While Bulgari only recently released their Octo Finissimo Automatic in black sandblasted ceramic at 2019’s Baselworld, a brand-new iteration sees the famed Roman jewelry- and watchmaker iterating upon the format with the introduction of a new model with both sandblasted and polished ceramic case and bracelet surfaces.
Featuring an all-black ceramic dial with polished hands and indices and a small seconds counter at 7 o’clock, the new Octo Finissimo Automatic is built around a 40mm extra-thin case (5.5mm, to be exact) with a sapphire case back, ceramic crown and 30m of water resistance. Its bracelet is both sandblasted and polished ceramic with a folding clasp.
The manufacture movement featured here is the BVL 138 Finissimo calibre, an automatic featuring a platinum micro-rotor, Côtes de Genève and 60 hours of power reserve. Impressively, it’s only 2.23mm thick. Price on the new model is $15,600 — the same as that of the original Octo Finissimo Automatic in black sandblasted ceramic released at last year’s Baselworld.
With sophisticated case architecture, an impressively thin, in-house automatic calibre and a stealthy look, this new version of the Octo Finissimo is probably the coolest time-only release of 2020 thus far.
