Timex Partnered with a Japanese Outdoor Brand on This Ultra-Affordable Field Watch

An affordable but quirky new field watch is the product of a collaboration between Timex and Japanese outdoor brand Snow Peak.

American watchmaker Timex has partnered with a Japanese outdoor brand on an affordable new field watch with a unique design. The new Snow Peak x Timex Camper watch builds upon a Timex classic but stands out first for its idiosyncratic dial that only features indices between the hours of 4 and 7 o’clock.

The hours emphasized on the dial are said to represent the average sunrise and sunset times throughout the year (for certain latitudes, of course). This dial design is not only unusual for its partial hour indices and otherwise clean design, but it also results in a little bit of edgy asymmetry. As an outdoor brand, Japanese company Snow Peak seems like a good fit for collaborating on a camping-themed watch.

The new Camper watch will come in two versions. Both feature Snow Peak and Timex branding on the daial, but one version in a military green will be sold through Snow Peak, while an all-black version will be sold by Japanese fashion brand Journal Standard. Both have the equivalent price of around $92 and will be available from December 13, 2019.
