Doxa debuted a new, relatively affordable collection of retro-styled dive watches at Baselworld 2019 with a limited edition in sober colors. Now, as promised at the time, the non-limited models have arrived — and they’re a colorful bunch, consistent with the brand’s reputation for vibrantly sporty dials. With no fewer than six versions, each has a steel bracelet and is powered by a Swiss automatic movement for a strong character and value at $990.
The Doxa Sub 200 has a conservative dive watch look and feel compared the brand’s most famous Sub T family of dive watches. Instead of the Sub T’s chunky case and distinctive no-decompression bezel, the Sub 200 takes some vintage inspiration from traditional dive watches but some modern specs, like domed sapphire crystal and a 42mm-wide, 14mm-thick case. With 200m of water resistance (hence the name), the Sub 200 is true to Doxa’s diving heritage, with each color following naming conventions from the brand’s history: orange is “Professional,” black is “Sharkhunter,” etc. Doxa has claim to popularizing the use of sporty orange dials going as far back as the 1960s.
Six colorways comprise the non-limited collection, ranging from bright orange, yellow, and turquoise to more sober black, silver, and blue models, each of which is powered by the ETA 2824-2 automatic movement with 38 hours of power reserve. The watches are available now from the brand on beads-of-rice-style steel bracelets, and a rubber strap option is coming in December 2019.
