Tested for extreme durability, Victorinox’s INOX collection has steadily grown from its steel-and-quartz roots to a wider range of colors, materials, and movements. An INOX sub-collection has previously existed featuring mechanical movements, but today Victorinox has launched a new INOX watch combining the badass properties and technical look of carbon combined with the appeal of a Swiss automatic movement.
It’s slightly ironic for Victorinox’s INOX collection to feature materials like carbon and titanium since many will recognize that inox is the standard abbreviation for the French term inoxydable, referring to stainless steel (though in the Victorinox world, “INOX” stands for “Impact Neutralizing Object for the X-tremes”). Nevertheless, carbon’s lightweight, scratch-resistant properties make it quite appropriate for a collection that’s made for the outdoors.
Watch fans will of course continue to clamor for mechanical movements, despite the fact that quartz is generally more durable for the outdoor use the INOX is intended for. The INOX Carbon Mechanical makes use of the reliable Sellita SW200 with a 38-hour power reserve and automatic winding, which is encased in a 43mm-wide case with 200m of water resistance and a transparent case back.
Unique to carbon is its undeniably cool look, apparent here via a unique texture and tactical matte black finish. The new Victorinox INOX Carbon Mechanical comes on a black rubber strap for a price of $1,150 and includes the brand’s black Spartan PS pocket knife, and it’s available directly from Victorinox online.
