Presage, Prospex, chronographs, Seiko 5, JDM models: Seiko has released so many products recently that even super cool and notable ones can get overlooked. This Seiko Presage with a green enamel dial is one such nifty watch. Both enamels dials and green dials are kind of hot right now, but there aren’t too many examples that have combined both trends like the new SPB111J1.
As with just about any color other than plain black or white, it’s really the hue and execution that makes it work or not. The particular shade of green Seiko has achieved appears foresty, and the brand says it’s inspired Japanese cedar leaves. It’s a pleasing, calming color, and enamel dials are known not to fade over time and to have a distinctive texture. They are also difficult and expensive to produce, so it’s no surprise that the SPB111J1 exists among recent other (relatively) premium-priced enamel Presage watches, though all things considered, an MSRP of roughly $1,400 seems more than fair. It also features sapphire crystal and is powered by an automatic Seiko 6R35 movement visible through a display case back.
It’s not clear if this is intended as a Japanese domestic market (JDM)-only watch — Seiko has produced a page in English for the SPB111J1, but only the Japanese site displays the price and availability date (references with a J at the end also often denote JDM versions). Price in USD will be around $1,380 and availability is expected for November 2019.
