Chicago watch brand Oak & Oscar has partnered with the historic sports equipment maker Wilson, also based in Chicago. The result is this limited-edition, baseball-themed Oak & Oscar Ashland watch that incorporates a feature especially useful to baseball fans and a range of extra touches they’ll appreciate.
A watch’s rotating bezel can be purposed to track a range of useful information, but baseball game innings are an uncommon application, to say the least. Markings on the Ashland bezel track the tops and bottoms of each inning — just turn it so the 12 o’clock marker points to the current inning as the game progresses. The green dial tastefully references the grass field, and a cute touch is that the 12 o’clock marker is made to look like home plate — the brand exercised restraint in not making the 3-6-9 markers look like bases or other overly kitschy references you could probably conjure.
With a 40mm diameter in steel and water resistant to a hardy 200m, the Oak & Oscar Ashland is powered by the well-regarded Swiss ETA 2892-A2 automatic movement with 42 hours of power reserve. In addition to the Wilson’s “W” logo on the dial, the watch features more goodies for baseball fans. One of the included leather straps is made from Wilson’s A2000 Copper Pro Stock Leather, while another is made from a technical microfiber material used in gloves called SuperSkin.
The collaboration is celebrated in even more ways, including on the engraved case back (which includes a movement display window) and in the name, which refers to Wilson’s original company name, Ashland Manufacturing Company. The Oak & Oscar Ashland is limited to only 130 examples, 100 of which are available to the public, and it has a price of $1,850. For $2,150, you also get a limited edition Oak & Oscar A2000 1787 baseball glove to go with it.
