It’s been a year of chronographs for UK-based independent brand Farer. About a year ago, the brand applied its colorful design sense to its first automatic chronograph watches, and later followed up with some unexpected but more affordable quartz
models
with split seconds and flyback functions. Now, Farer has released a trio of hand-wound mechanical chronographs with a handsome new case design and the brand’s signature design flare. As with all Farer watches, they are tastefully executed but provide a unique and powerful visual pop on the wrist.

In three versions, each takes on a very different character, rather than offering mere color variations. All share the same specs, however, and general sporty theme. They are further designed not to overwhelm the wrist with a 41mm width and lug-to-lug length of just 43mm. The case design is new for Farer with a retro tonneau or “turtle”-like case shape reminiscent of watches from the ’60s and ’70s, now resurgent in popularity.

A hand-wound movement helps reduce the case thickness typical of chronograph watches, for a measurement of 12.9mm including its raised and domed sapphire crystal. This is the Sellita SW 510 BH Elaboré movement with 58 hours of power reserve, and it’s visible through a sapphire crystal display case back. Despite its display case back and non-screw down crown (which makes the necessary regular winding easier), 100m of water-resistance is an appreciated touch and promise of durability.

The white version with all red highlights, called the Bernina, is a particularly eye-catching and unique design, but each is attractive in its own way — if this level of vibrancy is what you want on your wrist. Each model comes on a perforated leather strap and carries a price of $1,950.
