These Are the Watches We’re Obsessing Over in October 2019

As watch lovers, we spend our afternoons poring over watches both new and vintage. When a new timepiece comes across our radar, one that particularly resonates with our tastes, we can’t help but obsess over it. So, here’s a taste of that process — six timepieces that our watch-loving staff are obsessing over right at this very moment.

Tudor Black Bay 36, Blue Dial, Steel Bracelet

I don’t think I could sport a Rolex long term. Whenever I’ve tried one, something doesn’t feel quite right. Tudor on the other hand just might be my jam. I’m especially drawn to their smooth-bezel Black Bays, specifically the blue dial variant of the Black Bay 36 on a steel bracelet. Its no-date simplicity just nails it for me, and blue vs. black dial provides that little extra oomph, making it feel extremely unique. –Kyle Snarr, Head of Marketing

Universal Genève Polerouter

This Universal Genève is a departure from what I’d typically obsess over (I’ve mostly had eyes for a number of vintage Grand Seikos over the years), but there’s something about the Polerouter that always catches my attention. The watch was designed by Gerald Genta — who went on to design the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Patek Philippe Nautilus among others — to celebrate the newly forged flight path over the North Pole. Rolex GMT Master 1675

I keep trying to fall in love with a GMT-equipped watch to the same degree that I love the GMT Master…and I keep failing. There’s something about the case proportions, the matte black dial, the crazy colors those bezel inserts have turned (especially fuchsia ones like these). Sure, there are affordable GMT alternatives these days, but since we’re Obsessing, here, we may as well obsess over something unreasonably expensive. –Oren Hartov, Associate Editor

I’ve been thinking about the BB58 since I tried it on at Baselworld. Not sure whether to blame it on case size, color, bracelet, or availability, but this watch has positioned itself as my grail. Stowa Flieger Versus 40

Periodically coming back to stare at this pilot watch qualifies as obsessing, right? It’s based on an old, classic design, but refined in some ways that just make it look perfect for a modern everyday watch. The automatic movement is Swiss but the brand is very German in all the ways I can appreciate. An ideal 40mm wide, and super legible, it’s easy to envision getting a lot of satisfaction and wrist time over the long term from it. For the quite reasonable USD equivalent of around $650, it’s rare among obsession watches as having the strong potential of joining my watch family sometime soon. –Zen Love, Associate Staff Writer

Tudor Black Bay GMT

In my weaker moments I catch myself daydreaming about owning a Rolex GMT Master. Two timezones. Red and blue bezel. Rolex. So cool. Yet even for my daydreams, this is too expensive a watch for me. Instead, like Icarus with a bank account, I’ve been spending time scrolling around the product page for this watch wondering just how close to financial ruin is too close. Thankfully for me, ever since this watch was announced a couple years back at Baselworld it hasn’t been that easy to come by.
