Victorinox is known first and foremost for its Swiss Army multi-tool pocket knives, but is also as a maker of tough Swiss Made watches. It therefore makes plenty of sense to produce a knife with a kind of tool specially for watchmaking and watch repair, known as a case knife. The brand has made this type of tool in the past, but a new version is now available in collaboration with the watch enthusiast website HODINKEE.
A case knife is one of the basic tools watchmakers and watch-tinkerers always need to have on hand. Made specifically for the kind of watch case back that is snapped on, rather than screwed on, one uses a knife like this to pry open the case back and pop it off. (You’ll then need more watch tools in order to do whatever you were planning to do next, unless it was just to have a peek.) But for, say, verifying the authenticity of a movement, a case knife is an essential piece of kit.
In addition to the case back opener, the Victorinox Watchmaker Swiss Army Knife includes a two-inch blade, tweezers, and a toothpick. It also features the HODINKEE wordmark printed on the handle. The knife is available on the HODINKEE Shop website for a price of $29.
