Two Historic Brands Collaborated on This Military-Inspired Pilot’s Watch

Watchmaker Hamilton and famed leather manufacturer Schott both have American military roots, celebrated here in a new pilot’s watch.

Both Hamilton and Schott NYC were founded in the United States over 100 years ago, and both have a history of supplying the military with their respective products — in the 1940s, Schott made leather jackets for the US Army Air Force, and Hamilton made military watches. A modern-day collaboration between the two brands seems like a natural fit, and the result is the new Hamilton Khaki Pilot Schott NYC Limited Edition watch.

The new watch is an entry in Hamilton’s collection of Khaki Pilot watches, which come in a range of variations. The Schott NYC Limited Edition has a khaki green dial that pairs nicely with the brown strap supplied by Schott NYC, which is made from top grain, full aniline, lightweight steer hide leather. A hand-sewn folding leather case, also made by Schott and lined with plaid cotton, is included with the watch.

The Khaki Pilot watch measures a bold 46mm wide, with a broad dial and thin bezel to further emphasize its presence. (This is large for a lot of wrists, but historical pilot watches were often even bigger for the sake of legibility and to fit outside bulky clothing — or strapped to a pilot’s thigh.) The Schott NYC Limited Edition is powered by the Swatch Group’s manually wound movement ETA-based movement, which features an 80-hour power reserve and is visible through the watch’s transparent case back.

Schott’s founder was born in 1892, the same year Hamilton was founded, so the new watches are limited to a fitting 1,892 pieces. Each Khaki Pilot Schott NYC Limited Edition watch has a price of $1,145.
